When I plan to spend a morning photographing in an area like this in Yosemite, I figure I have perhaps 3-4 hours of interesting light for morning photography. I typically start with a subject that works well in predawn light, move to one that focuses on the actual sunrise, then move around to find other subjects when their best morning light arrives. On the way back to my car, I took this final photo through a stand of trees. The fog soaked up the incidental sounds and amplified the local.

My dog breathing. The scrunching of leaves underfoot. The rustle of my trousers. The swish, swish, swish of blood rounding my aorta.

Yes. It was beautiful out here. Not 500 metres away it was peak hour. We walked back to the car with a slow foggy intention.

I only took one photo. It was enough.
