Let’s bring some light into this darkest month, shall we? Here’s my first neon sculpture.

Low POV thru the sculpture without anything inside. In this image the colors are colder, more deep icy, xenon blues that border on indigo than cyan. A character version of myself (during a series of self portrait experiments during quarantine) with dramatic black and silver cyberpunk curcuitry eye makeup stares at us thru the intersecting beams. They have dark lips and wear a reflective high necked sleeve garment. They are in focus but the rest is increasingly out of focus in a very very tight aperture, making the lit tubes fuzzy and expansive almost like laser beams in a spy maze, or a sci-fi scanning device, or something more fantastic.

Looking down we see cyan triangular neon pieces rise up and fold in on each other with a counterclockwise twisting, maybe like a dumpling, or an intricate paper package. The light makes the hot pink bonsai branches glow vibrantly. Below, the reflection of the blue tubes in the black hexagonal mirror base is an echo.
Photo of the class reception with some of the class’ projects. Mine is in the foreground, in this photo looking dark blue as opposed to closer to cyan like the first two photos, probably because there’s so much white light right behind it. There are many 2D wall pieces behind, a red one of a woman made of squiggling line, a mostly white piece in Korean, an abstract red & cyan symbol piece, and two other abstract pieces at the end which are harder to make out.
A 3D sculpture of cool blue glowing noble gas tubes in triangles fold in on each other to create a multifaceted pyramid. They do this over a dark mirror-like surface, which reflects their hexagonal base and the pyramid within its black inky depths. Within this pyramid is a hot pink leafed bonsai tree, almost like it is sunning itself in a future terrarium. A younger me bends down and smiles at the camera, peering thru the sculpture. I have a platinum bisexual bob, Tokyo bomber jacket, and choker. The sculpture rests on a neon bending table, stained with beautiful patterns of brief intricate burns.

Last night, my family and I went to Descanso Gardens in La Cañada (LA County) for an annual event I've been wanting to go to for some time, but hadn't gotten around to it. This year, it is the Enchanted Forest of Light. The beautiful garden is arranged in stations of light and music that is ethereal and inspiring. I would highly recommend it!

The world is becoming less colourful. Across #Brazil and much of the #tropics, #butterflies are fading as #forests give way to industrial #plantations. Once vibrant with flashes of red, blue and gold, their wings are now turning brown and grey.
