Some more different shots from my walk down Piz Corvatsch ... I could never have enough in photographing the mountains, their peaks and what's around the area... 😊🙈📸⛰️🥰 there is so much peace over there, a few people, some birds singing and marmots whistling from somewhere in the mountains 😍😍😍.

Enjoy, ciaaooo 😊🪷🐄💐

"Great Aletsch Glacier" (2026)

Above the sides of the current #glacier, the glacier’s elevation in 1870 is clearly visible at the vegetation line. Since then, it has lost over 100 meters in thickness and 2.5 km in length — and continues to retreat fast.

A small plateau has formed roughly halfway up a rock face over 1,000 metres high. The small mountain lake takes up a large part of this small plateau. A small hut serves as a way station for mountaineers climbing the surrounding peaks.

Wrapped up my trip to #Vermont by #snowshoeing part of this mountain pass road yesterday that was closed to vehicles for the winter. Encountered a number of downhill skiers who appeared out of the woods after skiing down from the summit on various trails. A fun way to end my trip! #hiking #winter #mountains

Reflecting on the wonderful time I had last week in the Green #Mountains of #Vermont. Each morning we enjoyed the town of Stowe, including visiting art stores and a museum. Each afternoon involved 1-2 mini-adventures either #snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or #hiking (with microspikes). A great place! #MountainMonday #PhotoMonday #winter

Sometimes I find it difficult to capture the full beauty of a large #waterfall in a single image, such as the 85 feet tall (26m) frozen waterfall at the beginning of this thread. Macros of smaller sections of an object can also be beautiful. Here is a macro from that tall frozen waterfall shown earlier. Enjoy! #WaterfallWednesday #Vermont #mountains

Here is another interesting small feature of the tall frozen #waterfall (85'; 26m) shown at the beginning of this thread. I carefully walked up the partially frozen stream to capture this #closeup at the base of the waterfall. Icicles with an inverted shape (I believe called "ice bells") hang inside an #ice cave and water seen flowing below. #Vermont #mountains #winter

This innocent looking trail I hiked last week leads to a steep class-II descent down the wall of a gorge. Reward-- a beautiful frozen #waterfall! Wearing only microspikes and having (intentionally) left my crampons behind, I chose to stop just before the steep slippery section-- still got a decent view of the falls! #FootpathFriday #Vermont #mountains

June 29, 1983, 43 years ago today: After a seven-mile morning, I followed the half-mile side trail from the AT to Wiggins Spring Shelter. I had been told that the water from this spring was worth the trip in itself, and, anyway, a backpacker needs a place at which to lay back with his boots off at some point during the course of a twenty-two-mile day.

Here is a pic from my hike up to the ridge last month in the Presidential Range, White Mountains, NH. Above the tree line, there were significant fields of boulders and the "trail" was marked by cairns like this. I'm planning another trip to the ridge for sometime next month, but approaching from the other side of the ridge (east side). And, yes, more boulders!! #FootpathFriday #hiking #mountains

Check out the roots! The trail that I hiked on in my recent adventure in the White Mountains, NH varied dramatically as I hiked from the trailhead up to the ridge. While much of the trail consisted of either steep rock slabs or a boulder field up high, it looked much more like a trail down low such as in this pic with roots, small rocks, and dirt. #FootpathFriday #hiking #mountains

First view! When hiking up a mountainside with the goal of reaching a summit, it is always exciting when first seeing a view of the destination, even while still far away. Here was my first view of the ridge I was hiking to in my recent hike in the White Mountains, NH. I stopped and enjoyed the moment before I continued up the incline. #MountainMonday #hiking #nature
