Love this little toadstool! The wet cap looks so incredibly glossy and if you look a little closer, you can see that it lost one of its little flakes, which sticks to the leaf on the bottom left now.

I have my own trails and specific places in the forest such as this massive tree trunk lying on the ground. It has been there for a long time and is mostly covered with moss. I have photographed these helmet fungi on it several times. This time they are old and brown, their once white color gone. I like to stop at this spot because I can see a lot of life in the thick moss. It is a diverse habitat for insects which I observe from above on the display of my macro camera.

Tiny mushrooms with long, thin stems and helmet-shaped caps protrude from the moss. They are brown in color, and their lower edges curl up toward the cap like a closing umbrella, including a serrated edge. Only the mushroom in the center of the photograph is sharply defined; the others are blurred, with those in the background being very blurred.
