There was a phase when I kept placing my wife in front of beautiful scenes - not to make a lovely portrait for the family album, but simply to give the landscape some scale. This photo is from that era. I’d copied the idea from photographers who put a tiny person in a grand, dramatic backdrop. Fantastic images, of course… and yet, gloriously cliché. Whenever I see one, I roll my eyes - and admire it anyway.

A huge concrete ventilation pillar (? it's not explained) rising from the ground by stairs that lead to the upper level of the building. From the Guardian caption: ' Thomas C Keay Ltd (former offices), Dundee, designed by Ronald Cuddon with Tandy, Halford and Mills, built 1970 Many of the buildings constructed in the socially motivated period of post-war architecture have now been repurposed, pulled down or left to slowly decay. But others still serve their community. These stadiums and homes, leisure centres and fire stations, churches and libraries, were built for a people and nation in flux, with the vision of a new era of opportunity. '
The Guardian caption: ' Bernat Klein Studio, High Sutherland, designed by Peter Womersley, built 1972, listed A "One of the most poignant sites I photographed was the Bernat Klein Studio. A low-slung concrete and glass pavilion, designed for the Serbian-born textile designer, it exemplified modernism's poetic potential; functional yet graceful, open to the woodland around it. Today, it sits vacant, decaying, a fully paid-up member of Scotland's Buildings at Risk Register. The future once lived here; now it's damp, derelict and endangered (although acquired in July 2025 for restoration by the Bernat Klein Foundation)” '

Step of the Silent Dove

I captured this image during the summer—a Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto), spotted strolling casually along a thick oak branch. The lighting was so subdued that the scene was nearly colorless to begin with, so I leaned into it: black and white it is.

Large Banyan Trees create a beautiful arched canopy as they line up on each side of the rain slicked road of Almeria Ave located in Coral Gables, Miami.
This black and white photograph captures the beauty of the architectural detail of Coconut Grove's Plymouth Congregational church as vines cover and climb the bell tower and front portion. The church was modeled after the old Spanish missions of Mexico. It marked it's 100 anniversary in 2017. Amazingly the original sanctuary was built by one man, Felix Rebom, and his assistant using nothing more than a hatchet, a trowel, a plumb line and a T-square!
