St Michael's Mount is a tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.
Historically, St Michael's Mount was a Cornish counterpart of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France, with which it shares the same tidal island characteristics and a similar conical shape, though Mont-Saint-Michel is much taller.
Charlie is right here, nudging me to scratch his head—it’s a thing, you know. He gets something out of it, perhaps a feeling of kinship or belonging, and of course I do too. Scientifically speaking, petting a dog releases oxytocin—the “love hormone”—that bonds us together. Dog or cat, it works beautifully. I doubt it’s the same for an iguana or a goldfish, but what do I know. At the same time, cortisol—the stress hormone—drops, calming you, while dopamine and serotonin rise, further inducing contentment. So if you have a furry friend nearby, reach out.
I glance out the window and see darkness and gloom—not doom, just a cold, drizzly morning. The birds are absent, but the squirrels are busy raiding the feeders, as usual. Until I let Charlie out the back door, that is. For him, it’s sport—chasing squirrels. Sometimes it’s fun to watch the sudden scatter of birds and squirrels when Charlie charges outside.

I’ve thought about installing a pet door in the back storm door, or perhaps replacing it with one that already includes a pet door. For those across the water, a storm door is simply a door that’s one big window, sitting outside the entry door. But I wonder—would I be inviting critters in if I did that? The last thing I need is a squirrel, raccoon, or possum bouncing around inside the house. And what about the local reptiles? Would they see it as an open invitation? I’ll need to give it some more thought. 🤔

This was so much work! 😂 (To any proper editors this it probably 10 minutes max though) So, I had this door and I didn't know what to do with it. I took it this summer at the Roman Amphitheatre in Bologna (this is part of the building surrounding it so technically it also fits #fotovorschlag and also #doorsday) Anyway, point is, I was inspired by "The Hands Resist Him" which is one of my favourite paintings but I wanted the hands to come out of the door. Anyway, I hope you like it and find it spooky, I'd love to hear your thoughts! ✨

#Cities are cities precisely because—demonstrably—more people want to live in urban environments than those who abhor the idea altogether, for all the advantages that cities have to offer.
Only in America and other places where land and fossil fuels have been historically cheap and abundant, have people developed the idea of #suburbia and glorify and idealize #ruralism supported by private motor vehicles.
As a native of NYC during the bad old days, I well understand that our social experiments with public housing in the US have ended almost entirely in disaster, and that is precisely because those developments were built with efficiency as the only goal, not human dignity and community.
This does not mean we should not build apartment buildings, it means we need to build apartment buildings with human dignity and community as our foremost concerns. #urbanism #architecture #design #housing
