Svartisen glacier peeking at the sea past Steintinden mountain
Svartisen, “Black ice” glacier, are the collective name of the second and fourth largest glaciers in mainland Norway.
This is the largest, the West glacier at 201 square kilometres, and close to 1400-meter altitude. It is just short of Steintinden mountain peak at 1534 meter above sea level to the south in this photo.
Svartisen glacier is the second largest in continental Europe. It reaches the lowest point of any glacier in Europe, at 20 metres above sea level at Engabreen subglacier. Most of Svartisen lays at 1000 meter above sea level.
It is an enormous amount of ice and water. The landscape around this glacier is formed by older glaciers grinding and forming the mountain, peaks, valleys and fjords.
The Arctic Circle latitude crosses Svartisen close to this point.

In spite of alterations made to St Paul's Church since the Bohemian artist Wenceslaus Hollar made this etching around 1647, anyone familiar with the Covent Garden shopping and tourist area of London will recognize the portico of the Inigo Jones designed 1633 "actors' church".
Bologna's network of porticoes covers an area of about 62km. The longest uninterrupted one starts just outside Porta Saragozza and leads up to San Luca - this portico is 3.8km long and is the longest in the world! It also contains 666 arches (there are actually 658 because some of them don't get counted as proper arches but I'm not an arch-eologist), which is symbolically important and is often associated with the devil. Supposedly this number and the serpentine nature of the path as you lead up to San Luca is ment to represent the Virgin Mary conquering the serpent, the devil. Another interesting thing is you're not supposed to go up with your partner if you're not married because that will mean that you are going to break up. Top tip - break up at the bottom and get back together on the way home. ✨
