This is a black and white street photo in portrait format looking along a San Francisco Cable Car track in a quiet residential district. California (2013).

The lens is centred along the middle of a set of San Francisco Cable Car tracks or rails that stretch away from the viewer and up a fairly steep hill. The track consists of the usual two parallel rails but between them is a metal strip with a gap in it's centre where the moving cable is located. Either side of the street are cars parked along the kerb and all facing down the hill towards the camera. As is common in San Francisco, the cars have their front tyres angled towards the kerb (lest the brakes fail). Either side of the parked cars and towards the middle of the street are two parallel white lines. About 3/4 of the way up in the image there is a junction in the tracks where the track splits and leads off the the right.

The location: Washington Street in Nob Hill, the tracks leading off to the right leads to the 'Cable Car Barn', the building containing the winding machinery and museum.
