As a longtime #PHP dev I've heard about every trend in data storage, but am not a storage systems *expert* so it's hard to argue with them.
I've watched SO MANY devs (including founders!) try to invite disaster by switching storage engines instead of just... waiting a bit.
Imagine the joy in validating my tl;dr of "I'm pretty sure all these 'innovations' always get katamari'd into the major SQL engines" was correct and I have not been losing my mind for 20 years:

Currently setting up a new phone. While the OS (Android in this case) has improved what gets transferred since I last did this, it seems it comes as a surprise to many apps that moving to a new phone is a thing.
The overall experience is an embarrassing muddle of thrown-together security theatre.
Before it got weaponised, there used to be a discipline that focused on user experience and, rather than enshittifying it, actually improve it.
It would be nice to have UX make a comeback.
One app I just set up on the new phone wanted to check it was me, so it asked me to confirm my identity on the old phone, but not before freezing my account, which logged me out of the other app. I eventually got back into both new and old phone (via email 2FA), only to be presented with the prompt on the old phone to confirm that it was indeed me logging in on the new phone.
This is facepalm-level muppetry.
It's 2026 and what we have in terms of technology is impressive... but it's definitely not as impressive as it could be. And it's not as if making it more impressive is a hard problem. It's a question of priorities and product ownership, of self-respect and respect for users. Prioritise fixing known issues (both UX and code) over adding features.
It's a solved problem.
Product companies are pissing on you without having the decency to call it rain.

I'm sure I've been lied to already, but I do have a sense that in longer texts we can still "feel" true human writing. Not so much for the errors but more for the continuity of an individual style.
Maybe this is mostly true for well-written non-fiction* and less-so for fiction.

I'm reading a textbook authored by an A. Lesk. Illustrating the dog genome section is a lovely drawing by a V.E. Lesk. It's safe to assume the two Lesks are related.Most of the pages are text only. And while there's little anecdotes it's primarily a classic "information-first" work.
Yet... the dog and the overall finesse in the text gives an undeniable feeling of a human created / owned work.
I wonder how far we're away from LLM to replicate that for this type of texts. Is it even possible?
