My alarm woke me from a dream that I was climbing back into the Mt Margaret wilderness. The reality of 6am darkness under an atmospheric river and going to work was a... disappointment. *sigh*

At least I can update my desktop images with some of these beauties.

From the pass it was an easy ascent to Laguna Pollone. This is a special place. We sat down, ate some energy bars and just gazed at that awesome, dramatic scene. The reflections of the mountains echoed in the waters of the lake, which still had some morning ice drifting across. All was still. No wind. Such a tranquil moment for us both.

A mature bald eagle perched in a cottonwood tree surrounded by yellow and orange autumn leaves, looking fierce with its white head and large yellow scimitar beak. It is a large bird, tall and narrow and mostly black. You can see its talons gripping a branch, yellow with black claws.
Three wood ducks perched on a snaggy log in the water, one colorful male and two females, one of which has its beak open squawking at the male. They are reflected in the water below. The male is a kaleidoscope of green, orange, gold, maroon, blue and green. The pattern of it all is remarkable.
A mature beaver is sitting on a log that is partially submerged in a lake. It’s a lateral view and the beaver is seriously wet and furry, a curious reddish-brown. It’s looking to the right with its beady eye and its mouth is slightly open.
A shot from a distance of two river otters on a log sticking out of a gravelly beach. They’re long and sleeks with quite strong looking and long tails. One is looking left and the other right. The water is shimmering a bit and slickly gray.

16 miles today and the pictures don't do it justice. The colors were so intense I found myself taking pictures every 50 feet. The low sun angle really makes the colors pop!
It was my "normal" creeks/river/lake walk, but I added in some bushwhacking and rock hopping. If I find myself on any trail wider than 1 foot, I'm highly likely to "turn left" and see what happens. Things got interesting for a bit, but I didn't get into any trouble.

A small pond in a woodland
A slough, I think it's called. Basically a shallow overgrown pond bordering on being a swamp. But it's got lots of colorful plants in and around it.
