Spurges are generally pretty weird in my opinion, and the aptly-named Beetle Spurge (Euphorbia eriantha) justly earns a spot in the top part of the list.

Maybe it's alien and should be called UFOrbia? 😅

Die Unermüdlich Blühende.

Seit Wochen schon, ach was – gefühlt Monate! - verwöhnt die Farbenpracht zahlreicher Blüten der Cosmea bipinnata nicht nur ‘Meine Wissende Ehefrau‘ sondern auch mich und natürlich viele Bestäuber. Turbulente Wetter-Capriolen scheinen ihr nichts auszumachen. Sie erholt sich auch von vorübergehender Hitze und Trockenheit und zeigt sich dann von ihrer allerschönsten Seite.

Coyote Thistle for #ThistleThursday due to the common name... but this plant is actually in the Apiaceae family, while thistles belong to the Asteraceae 🤪

The scientific name is Eryngium aristulatum var. parishii and another common name is San Diego Button Celery.

This is a rare/endangered native plant, due to limited distribution and habitat loss. It grows in vernal pools, of which >90% in San Diego have been lost due to development.

Green Sweat Bee
I love these tiny, zippy, iridescent metallic green bugs, but they don't like to linger long. They aren't very populous were I live, so seeing one pause long enough for a clear shot was a very nice surprise. I imagine that as the summer ends, there is less pollen left, and they may have to stay a bit longer to collect a meal.
