I have a tidy, well-composed version of this scene, with the surf receding and being well-behaved in the distance, but this one seems more appropriate to the times.

Endings can be new beginnings too — messy, uncharted, full of danger and opportunity. The old year is over, with all its joys and horrors. Here we go, into the unknown.

Hier bildet sich eine Weißdüne. Die Halme des Strandhafer zeichnen sich gegen den tiefblauen Himmel ab und fangen den - durch den Wind herbeigetragenen - Sand ein. Langsam bildet sich dieser kleine Hügel aus weißem Sand (in dem die Wurzeln des Strandhafer das Regenwasser auffangen, bevor es im Sand versickert).

Der Blick geht Richtung Festland. Dort im Süden sind über den Windkraftanlagen Schönwetterwolken und blauer Himmel zu erkennen. Im Vordergrund schiebt sich ein im Schatten liegender Streifen Salzwiese ins Bild. Wir stehen am Spiekerooger Hafen und warten auf die Fähre die sich schon als dunkler Fleck abzeichnet. Hier vor der Insel fällt der erste von der Nordsee aufziehende Regen - wie ein grauer Vorhang hängt dieser vor dem Blau des Hintergrundes.

A tranquil view of the White Beach section of Boracay Island, Philippines, which has a very gradual slope allowing for a broad expanse of shallow water. Gentle waves of crystal-clear water sweep over fine, smooth sand, from the ocean at right to the far shoreline at left. This region of cays holds the most pristine turquoise waters that I’ve seen, with the islands made up of sand and coral. It also was formally a key spot for rum-running.

Embracing my local coastline this morning in the lovely late summer sunshine.
That's Roker Pier and Lighthouse at the mouth of the River Wear in Sunderland, North East England.
Heading into the final weeks of the season and good to see people once again enjoying the opportunity to walk along the pier following repairs to storm damage that occurred a while back.
If you're not familiar with the area, you might be interested to know that you can book guided tours through an access tunnel that runs the length of the pier and exits into the lighthouse!
