Above the sides of the current #glacier, the glacier’s elevation in 1870 is clearly visible at the vegetation line. Since then, it has lost over 100 meters in thickness and 2.5 km in length — and continues to retreat fast.

The first sunlight and a veil of mist can work wonders. Backlit by the rising sun, this pine branch almost appears to be on fire—thankfully, it's only an optical illusion created as tiny water droplets scatter the warm morning light.
