This is a photo of the campanile. From the plaque: In 1822 St. Paul's was established as the first Roman Catholic Parish between Kingston and Windsor. The first church built of red brick, was opened on this site in 1824. The land to the east of the church was used as Toronto's first Catholic Cemetery. On December 22, 1889, the present Italian Renaissance style church was dedicated. It was designed by architect Joseph Connelly, under the inspiration of the then Pastor, Bishop Timothy O'Mahoney. The beauty of the church enhances its importance as the mother church of the Toronto Archdiocese. On August 3, 1999, Pope John Paul II elevated St. Paul's to Basilica status.

There's no shortage of churches in Italy and Bologna is no expection. There are over 50 churches/basilicas/santuarios here alone! This one in Piazza dei Celestini Is nothing much to look at on the outside - but on the inside it is spectacular! ✨

The photo shows the interior of a richly decorated church (San Giovanni Battista dei Celestini in Bologna). The altar is the central focus, featuring a large painting depicting the Madonna and Child surrounded by figures. The church's ceiling and walls are adorned with elaborate frescoes and gold detailing. There are candles lit on small tables either side of the alter. In the very front in the foreground you can see rows of wooden pews.
