Yesterday, we spent the afternoon wandering around Half Moon Bay with Jeri. She showed us a couple of her favorite beaches and birdwatching spots, and we took photos together.

Between beaches, Bob and Jeri pointed out a bird hopping around in the grass and on a fence—and there were more. It was a flock of yellow-rumped warblers.

I've only ever seen them perching or doing in-flight acrobatics to catch bugs. They're also nimble on the ground.

“Raptor Drama”
Earlier this week in Timnath, I encountered this red-tailed hawk with a bird in its talons (looks like it might be a starling). Just to its left was a Cooper’s hawk. I don’t know if the RTH took the bird from the Cooper’s, or if the Cooper’s was watching to see if the RTH would drop it. But the RTH took off with the prey in its talon and the Cooper’s immediately followed. I don’t know how the drama ended.

Eine Kohlmeise (Parus major) sitzt aufgeplustert auf dem Zweig eines kahlen Apfelbaums. Der Betrachter sieht sie von schräg hinten. Der Vogel hat den linken Flügel angehoben und stochert mit dem (nicht sichtbaren) Schnabel darunter herum. Es wirkt, als wolle er sein Gesicht mit dem Flügel vor dem Licht schützen. Unter der Meise hängen zwei gelb-rote Äpfel. Der Vogel hat einen kurzen schwarzen Schnabel. Die Federn am Kopf sind schwarz und an den Wangen und Ohrdecken weiß.
