i just want to tell the world that the indonesian police are one of the institutions that violate human rights by blocking and not allowing ambulances to pass the road they are guarding because of civil society demonstrations about the revision of the indonesian national army law.

#Clearview #AI used nearly 1m times by US police
"Facial recognition firm Clearview has run nearly a million searches for US police, its founder has told the BBC.
Clearview's system allows a law enforcement customer to upload a photo of a face and find matches in a database of billions of images it has collected.
It then provides links to where matching images appear online. It is considered one of the most powerful and accurate facial recognition companies in the world."

How Cities and States Spent Billions of COVID-19 Relief
"President Biden’s signature American Rescue Plan Act gave local governments $350 billion to recover from COVID-19. They spent much of it on police, prisons and the courts.
After signing the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) last spring, President Joe Biden touted what the economic stimulus bill would deliver: food assistance to millions of people in need, lower #healthcare premiums for millions of Americans, and $350 billion for state and local governments to spend on COVID-19 recovery. Economists say it was the largest infusion of federal funding in local governments in almost 40 years.
A year later, ARPA became one of President Biden’s talking points to demonstrate #Democrats are not out to defund the police."

From Malpensa to Tel Aviv: Italian police use Israeli software to spy on anti-deportation activsts
„Police violence is about more than batons. It also manifests itself through interference and encroachment into private life. Police have always used an odious set of tools to achieve this. They follow people’s movements and observe and listen to their daily lives.
Today, however, access by police forces and governments to confidential, detailed and sensitive information can be much more pervasive than one might imagine. The spyware system Paragon, that has recently come to light, is one example of this. The services provided by the Israeli company Cellebrite are another, albeit different, example.
We have written this text because we believe it may help people protect themselves from the pervasive surveillance by the authorities. We invite you to share it widely.…“

Police are not primarily crime fighters, according to the data
"More notably, researchers analyzed the data to show how officers spend their time, and the patterns that emerge tell a striking story about how policing actually works. Those results, too, comport with existing research showing that U.S. police spend much of their time conducting racially biased stops and searches of minority drivers, often without reasonable suspicion, rather than “fighting crime."
