"The comparisons between the revolts which have shaken #France since the police murder of a 17-year-old last Tuesday and those which shook France in 2005 are unavoidable. In 2005 two teenagers, Zyed and Bouna, were chased into an electricity bunker in the eastern suburbs of #Paris where were both electrocuted to death. Three weeks of rioting followed in France, the youth angry about the police state, angry about racism, angry about the relegation of the cities. Eighteen years later, even if the media, society and political culture have evolved, not much seemed to have changed in the relationship between young people of colour and the police. On Monday of this week, with fires still smouldering in cities across the country, a news announcer calmly announced that “this three-day period of rioting” had done more damage than the rioters were able to do in three whole weeks 2005. There is something sly and mediatic in this turn of phrase – as if the state has decided – “here, you’ve had your fun for three days, there will not be a fourth”.

Three Nights of Riots in France After Police Kill Youth

France has seen a wave of massive protests following the death of a teen at the hands of police.

On Thursday, air traffic controllers at Paris’ Beauvais Airport saw a complete shutdown of flights as travelers flock to the top tourism destination.

In Nanterre, the working-class town on the western outskirts of Paris where 17-year-old Nahel M. was shot dead on Tuesday, protesters torched cars, barricaded streets and hurled projectiles at police following a vigil.

Protesters scrawled “Vengeance for Nahel” across buildings and as night set a bank was lit on fire.

In central Paris, a Nike shoe store was broken into after store windows were smashed along the rue de Rivoli shopping street, Paris police said.

Fires and fireworks erupted in Marseille, Lyon, Pau, Toulouse and Lille.

Videos on social media showed numerous fires across the country, including at a bus depot in a suburb north of Paris and a tram in the eastern city of Lyon.

In Marseille, France’s second city, police fired tear gas grenades during clashes with youths in the tourist hot-spot of Le Vieux Port.

The incident is one of many examples of the racism enforced by the police and their subjugation of low-income, racially mixed suburbs around major cities in France.

Es war vollkommen absehbar, dass die Neoliberalen unter dem Vorwand des Kampfes gegen "Hass und Hetze" zur offenen #Zensur übergehen, um die Auflehnung gegen die Ungerechtigkeiten ihres Systems oder auch nur die Verbreitung von Bildern der von ihnen verursachten Zustände zu unterdrücken.

Nun kündigte der EU-Digitalkommissar Thierry #Breton im Fernsehen an, dass die EU mit dem "Digital Service Act" ab dem 25. August durchgreifen will, um auch Aufrufe zu Aufständen im Internet zensieren zu lassen und ihre Veröffentlichung gegebenenfalls unter Strafe zu stellen.

Damit stellt sich die EU-Kommission mit dem #DSA direkt hinter das Regime von Präsident #Macron und dessen rassistischen Polizeiapparat.

Der französische Machthaber drohte erst kürzlich wieder eine Internetzensur zur Unterdrückung von Protesten und Aufständen in Frankreich an, als nach der Ermordung des Jugendlichen #Nahel durch einen Polizisten in #Nanterre Aufstände ausbrachen und sich landesweit Menschen, vor allem aus den Banlieues, den Aufständen anschlossen.
