Hi! My name is Tim and this is a quick post to temporarily serve as an introduction.
I'm a fifty-something forester, working in the North Highlands of Scotland (and further south, occasionally).
I enjoy my work and count myself lucky to do it in amazing and remote places with fabulous scenery. I am less keen about the short winter days, midges, ticks and wet days spent outside in muddy and peaty conditions. It's all part of the job though...

/continued in comments.

As the snow thins out on the higher slopes the Mountain Hares can get back up and have a bite to eat. Their summer coats are starting to appear just in time too. Yesterday near the summit of Creag Leacach #Cairngorms #Scotland

In Scotland, new rules are being introduced to require β€œswift bricks” in new buildings, a small change that creates nesting spaces and helps birds coexist with urban life.

Expansive lawns and elegantly patterned parterre gardens stretch out from the terraces of Mellerstain House, framed by the rolling countryside of the #ScottishBorders. The historic gardens, with their neatly clipped hedges and formal stone balustrades, lead the eye towards a tranquil lake surrounded by dense woodland. A celebrated #CountryEstate, Mellerstain is renowned for its #HistoricGardens, where visitors can enjoy peaceful walks and sweeping #NatureViews. The harmonious blend of landscaped grounds and natural beauty makes it a favourite spot for #LandscapePhotography enthusiasts.

Musselburgh Lagoons offer extremely wholesome views today.

90 min easy bike ride along the coast for me. Warm wind outside Edinburgh, but a wee bit chilly once back in Portobello.

An anonymous house, Fair Isle
My poor old Canon has gathered so much dust and dirt over the past 15 or 20 years, it's now virtually unusable. Have to spend way too much time repairing images. I've tried the dust delete data thing but can't get it to work. Any tips?
I'm here on this wonderful little island in the North Atlantic to do some composing on a new opera. If you want to learn more just subscribe to my monthly newsletter on Substack: maartenornstein.substack.com

I shared this #photo with wifey, who is away with NJ right now. She said it looks like the sky is fake.

And yeah, it looks like an old version of TerraGen made it. But I added #NoFilters to this photo off our rugged home landscape.

I knackered myself in by taking a "slight detour" on my walk, that basically doubled the walk.

The sky was grey, but #nature is trying not to be.

It took me so many times to get my phone camera to focus on this tiny #flower rather than the background. But I'm glad I kept trying.

Diving into Mastodon a bit like the chaffinch diving off this branch. Hi everyone, I'm John a hobbyist wildlife photographer based in Scotland. I currently upload all of my images to Flickr but I'm wanting somewhere else to share some of them too. Still not quite sure how Mastodon works but hope to view yours and share more of my wildlife and nature photographs.

A tranquil stretch of the River Teviot winds through the lush greenery of the Scottish Borders, perfect for countryside walks and quiet moments by the water. Tall trees and rugged riverbanks create a serene backdrop, with open meadows inviting a slow rural escape. The area around Kelso is known for its rich natural beauty, offering ample opportunities for nature photography and wildlife spotting. Flowing gently past fields and woodland, the river embodies the peaceful charm of #RiverTeviot #ScottishBorders #CountrysideWalks #NaturePhotography #RuralEscape.

Rain, wind, sun, hailstones, snow, back to rain. At one point the constantly changing weather created a rainbow, not above, but across the face of the Campsie Fells.

Lasted mere moments, but gorgeous.

The Aurora from last night here in the North East of Scotland. Strong activity between 21:30 and 22:30 with the colours visible to the eye. A lot more reds and purples than I’ve seen for a while too #Aurora #Aberdeenshire #Scotland

β›ͺSomewhere in Scotland. This decaying ruined chapel is simple and relatively plain; the beauty here comes from the natural decay. Years of neglect are taking their toll. The roof is collapsing in several places. Dried leaves and twigs litter the floor, a dusting atop rubble and fallen plaster.
