Society is starting to look exactly like what happens when we spend decades treating STEM as the only path worth investing in, while sidelining the humanities.

This isn't a criticism of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. We need them. Desperately. They should be well supported.

We need people who can understand the human condition, recognise propaganda, interpret context, think critically about power, engage with complexity, and ask not only how the world works, but what kind of world we ought to build.

Just when paper banknotes will be slowly ditched for digital money. This is brilliant EU-style democracy in action. This reminds of the 2 last times my country offered a real democratic vote (i.e. referendum): one was about shortening the time for our elected king from 7 to 5 years (in 2000) and the other one was about the EU Constitution (in 2005), to which most of my fellow citizens voted ‘no’ but their choice has never been acknowledged.

well I can at least understand that when someone comes from a tradition of free speech & free political assembly, banning a certain party feels .. strange.

then again, #democracy isn't just free assembly and political organisation, it's also integrating into a set of rules (like general human rights) and if you're unable or unwilling to do that - you just get banned. Always.

Problem is: there's a lot of "democratic" parties here who don't do real democracy any more.
