While I sadly find it too unstable and lacking in features at the moment, I do have a very strong soft spot for @elementary and I try it every now and then. I am frankly sick and tired big projects and the open source world that call themselves "apolitical". Take a stance, you fucking cowards, or the world will decide for you.

but even celebrates it. I feel seen and cared for. I know their community isn't going to be a place where things get weird and awkward at best if I dare speak about these things and my needs.
I'm not saying that every projects should openly talk about deep political topics (though they kinda should). But do the bare minimum, make it known that you're on the side of those marginalized everywhere, that you don't tolerate hateful rhetoric. Be a fascist repellent.
"Apolitical" often means complete silence on social issues within the community. Because guess what, your cool open source apolitical project is gonna have a community around it, and if you let it, it will always replicate the status-quo, and so, it will always be for cishet white dudes first and everyone else lasts. You need to work for it to be anything but, and I'd say you have a moral obligation to do so but at a time where so many projects are almost rolling out the red carpet for open fascists within their community spaces, I can take the hint that this is a conversation some are clearly not ready for.
Elementary is not behind the time. It has always been and is still is very much forward thinking.
The state of open source software is fucking depressing, I resent being every minute I spend in it. I would say "do better" but most of you are not even trying.

Get @elementary . Throw em a few bucks. Encourage your friends. If there's any sort of grant available for tech being made in the interest of social good, get em on their radar. Cause gott damn it's great touching a computer that respects you ❤️
