Why isn't Proton Mail or Proton Calendar available on F-Droid? 🤔
Both are privacy-focused apps, so it seems like a natural fit for the FOSS ecosystem. Anyone know if there's an unofficial repo or mirror where these can be found?

Are there any legal and political progress with respect to #Google 's decision to reject the installation of any app whose developpers are not verified by the company? If not, are there any other initiative to help users keeping the capacity to use #FLOSS apps from repos like #Fdroid ? It seems it is possible, but I'm not sure how many people will be able to implement it on their own or will have the means to buy a phone with #eos or #graphenos already installed.

Currently, translating opens the translator app. The idea is to keep everything inside #Fedilab: the translated text comes straight back into the post, so you never leave the app. You do not even notice it used another app in the background. It is already done in #HolosSocial, and I will add it to Fedilab.

It appears that 60% of users get scared and can't press 6 buttons on screen to install a game, ask Epic. Now, imagine it does not take 6 seconds to install F-Droid, but 24h, how exactly will you guide your friend to install a cool app from #FDroid when Google asks them if they are being coerced? Will you be with them tomorrow too?

Messed around with an older Kindle Fire tablet this weekend, and stumbled-discovered you can side-load #fdroid through the Silk Browser. From there, you can install any of #deltachat, #ironfox, #orbot, #comaps,... even #supertuxcart
Installing apps through #AuroraStore is hit-or-miss, where the 'misses' are very informative: #firefox & #fennec must have hooks to Google Play Services, because they immediately crash upon opening in FireOS.
The new #FDroid version enables automatic updates even when they were disabled in the old version.
If you upgrade, quickly disable network access when the new version is installing, so you can get to the settings of the new version before it starts updating apps on its own.

The #HolosSocial relay is now ready for an official prod release. Users might have noticed better responsiveness from it.
The app is already available on #AltStore for iOS, and will be on the #PALStore. It is available with the apk, ipa and all the desktop files on the website and #Codeberg. It is also on #FDroid, but releases are stuck on 1.8.1, which I will fix.
Publishing on the big stores like Google Play or the App Store is not my goal.

#Holos 1.11.0 is available.You can now view and change your email and password from a new account screen in settings. The app also compacts its database automatically in the background to reclaim space and keep things fast, and a notification lets you know when it runs. A new Compact Database button in the cleanup settings lets you run it on demand.

I often get the question of when #Fedilab will be available on #FDroid, and it's impossible for me to tell you exactly. When I publish a release, it means F-Droid can gather the new code to build it on its side.
But did you know that you can easily track builds of Android apps with "F-Droid Build Status"?

#Fedilab uses #UnifiedPush for push notifications in every version. The Google Play version comes with a built-in distributor that relies on Google, so notifications work right away. The #FDroid version cannot include that built-in distributor, so you need to install a separate one, like #ntfy or #Sunup. Once it is installed and selected in Fedilab, push works the same way. This is why F-Droid users need an extra app while Google Play users do not. This extra step is not specific to Fedilab.

Z.B wird bemängelt das ich keine 3 € für Mailbox ausgeben obwohl ich angegeben habe das ich einen eigenen Mailserver habe.
VPN nutze ich auch aber Tor konnte ich nicht angeben.

Aber jeder Blocker macht einen auch identifizierbar....

Ok so, having a @protonprivacy plan running until April 2027 gives me the time to test and evaluate other options.
I'm giving @thunderbird desktop app a go, and I've seen they have an iOS app in the making (by the end of the year).
I actually secretly hope that, by then, I'll have freed myself from Apple services, but who knows. I'm not a fan of Google–Android tbh. Alternatives?
Sometimes I think I'd rather live in a cave.
