I've now created the ansible-community organization on @Codeberg to do exactly the same: codeberg.org/ansible-community

I'm not looking to justify my personal motives for this at this time but know that it is not meant to compete with github.com/ansible-community and does not intend to spur a migration from GitHub either.

It is meant to be a neutral, general purpose place to contribute on Ansible projects together outside of GitHub because the Ansible community exists outside of #GitHub.

I love the Halloween theme of the #Github contribution graphic 🎃

Dear #GitHub users, if you prefer the orange-themed heatmap for #halloween and would like to see it all year long: feel invited to move to #Forgejo or #Codeberg (and choosing a forgejo theme in the appearance settings). It's the default colour here.

Github? I think I rather do want to miss it, thanks.

Looking forward to the next non-Github related HomeAssistant event, though.

While I’m there, I’ll be at the @homeassistant Meetup at GitHub HQ! If you’re in the Bay Area, let’s meet 👋, chat 💬, and maybe even drink one! 🍻

Can anybody convince me to use Gitmoji?
Or explain to me why using emojis for categorisation in git commit messages is not worth the effort?

I'm sorry to repeat that yet again, but: Users are never wrong.

Users did something, users concluded something, users interacted somehow, because of the UX *you* made.

Can't satisfy #GitHub's increasingly invasive requirements for verifying academic affiliation for free access to features like private repositories ("Take a picture of (not upload) a dated ID" / "Why aren't you on campus?" / "Upload an image explaining why you're not on campus") so I guess I'm paying $4 a month for GitHub Pro now. Is this a win for Microsoft?

I really need to get around to moving to #forgejo...

Distributed version control decentralization spectrum

GitHub - Microsoft controls it

Codeberg - a nonprofit controls it

Forgejo - I control it

Radicle - nobody controls it

Did I get that right?

#git #github #codeberg #decentralization #forgejo #radicle #software #foss #microsoft #opensource

@Codeberg @forgejo @radicle

Something I really like about Forgejo is how seriously they are taking software freedom.
- They use Forgejo itself as their git forge, not GitHub
- No reliance or linking to proprietary corporate services such as Patreon, Twitter, Facebook etc. They use Mastodon and Liberapay.
- No Dockerhub, their OCI images are on Codeberg.
- No Discord! (really hate how many FOSS projects use it)
- Their documentation does not recommend proprietary developer tools such as VSCode or Sublime Text.
- They recently switched to a copyleft license

Very refreshing, considering how many other popular git forges are either proprietary or "open-core"

Welche #Einstellung muss ich auf #GitHub vornehmen, wenn ich über eigene #Kommentare und Kommentare dazu umgehend per #Email informiert werden möchte?

While you're waiting for GitHub to stop being broken, you might want to check out a self-hosting alternative called @forgejo at:

➡️ forgejo.org

Alternatively, if you just want a Forgejo instance to sign up on, check out @Codeberg at:

➡️ codeberg.org

Forgejo is free open source software, and is a community-run hard fork of Gitea.

just created my @Codeberg account. Next step, to publish my code into it and close github account, yeah!

I see people care more about "feature requests" than helpful bug reports when submitting an issue on #github therefore I will close every of those "issues". In my opinion Github should not help users bypassing issue templates

it's not possible to disable pull requests on a repository on #GitHub. It means people end up submitting PRs even if the repository is just a mirror or not accepting contributions for some reason. With #Forgejo, it's possible, so #Codeberg supports that

pull request templates.
@forgejo's support for yaml-based templates is an awesome addition that I love a lot.
Meanwhile #github only has Markdown-based templates, which is just so limiting.

Only thing I wish forgejo would have, is a PR template chooser similar to issues. Would make it so much more useful.

I'm surprised I can use the #GitHub website in #Dillo to develop Dillo itself. Logging in with two factor authentication, opening issues and PR, commenting, looking at the CI logs, all seem to work without JS.
