Gestern konnten wir auf unserem Linux-Nachmittag in #Uelsen die Rechner von 25 Menschen im Alter von 14 bis 80 Jahren von Windows auf Linux umstellen.
Die Resonanz war sehr positiv, die Hütte war rappelvoll (ich bin dankbar für alle Helfer, die uns unterstützt haben) und die nächsten zwei Ersatztermine sind auch schon fast ausgebucht.

I dream of a flip phone that can run postmarketOS and make calls over Wi-Fi and Jabber.
Why? Because flip phones aren't expected to be a place where you run "apps." If you say "I have a flip phone," your bank won't hassle you to get the app anymore.
postmarketOS does have some support for feature phones. It can run on the devices that come with KaiOS.

Gerade die User die sehr wenig technische Expertise haben, erkennen den Unterschied zwischen #Windows und vielen #linuxdistributionen doch gar nicht. Bzw. höchstens an der Optik.
Egal ob #cinnamon #XFCE oder #KDE. Sehr viele Desktops haben ein Bedienkonzept das nicht weiter von Windows weg ist. Als verschiedene Windows-Versionen von einander.
Ich hab schon Leuten #linuxmint installiert, die gar nicht bemerkt haben dass das kein Windows ist.

What did you find helped make the role more attractive to a wider range of applicants to join?

Free software movement focuses on freedom, but not friendly to the commercial world.
Open source movement emerged from free software movement. It replaced freedom with software development methodology. It is absolutely friendly to the commercial world.
Open core is the natural next direction of open source. It is friendly to the commercial world, but it is also friendly to the pocket of the developers.
Next, returning to 100% proprietary software as a way of life.

Edit: I am not against proprietary software. I am using Excel daily.
This academic search engine relies on #libxml2 in several places. After harvesting bibliographic metadata (mostly OAI XML) from thousands of publication repositories, we process it using libxml2 and #libxslt.
We are operating on a tiny budget, so all we can do is to hope that the maintainer of libxslt will be able to cope with maintaining libxml2 as well (as he just offered) – and extend our gratitude to the #FreeSoftware community on whose shoulders we are standing.
