• Transient ACME server failures are now retried up to four times and obey the Retry-After header, falling back to exponential back-off if one isn’t provided.
• Vastly improved error handling.
• Some bug fixes.

The EU 🇪🇺 spends ~€264 billion a year on IT, mostly proprietary, cementing exactly the vendor lock-in and dependencies.
Its Tech Sovereignty Package positions #FreeSoftware a "first" principle for the upcoming Cloud and AI Development Act #CADA. Now it needs to be binding, not just a suggestion.

Digital #sovereignty can only be achieved with #FreeSoftware!
The "Germany Stack" will shape public administrations’ digital infrastructure, and whether people and businesses can interact with them on sovereign terms. Free Software must be its standard: proprietary software "Made in Europe" does not deliver sovereignty.

So as user, you must pay for it 💲, even if you do not want to use this OS.
This is unfair and we want to change it! Consumers should be able to buy laptops without any specific OS, and should not have to pay the license price if they don't want to.

A new fee waiver could help some not-for-profit projects, and we welcome that. But it changes nothing about notarization, developer accounts, or entry thresholds. For #FreeSoftware, this is not the substantial shift the #DMA should deliver, and we have been highlighting this in our report.
The biggest issue: #notarization. Every app must pass Apple's automatic and human review before it can run on iOS, even when distributed outside the App Store, via an alternative marketplace or a website.
No channel escapes Apple's gatekeeping.
Once notarized, Apple encrypts the binary. Nobody can run, inspect, or share that software freely. This makes it impossible to distribute #FreeSoftware apps, as the freedoms cannot be guaranteed.
#Apple has announced new terms for alternative app distribution in the EU (18 August 2026). The reduction of fees is welcome, but the core problems for smaller developers and #FreeSoftware remain there.
