Some folks at #FOSDEM tried to buy the makeshift hats one of our team members brought, so I arranged for this prototype of an official hat to be made. It's a fisherman beanie with our logo embroidered. I'm trying to gauge interest here. Is this something you'd buy? (Poll in follow-up post)

Wow. That shit is terrible: so a friend organized this spontaneous, friendly, DIY, mutual aid booth within the ULB during FOSDEM.
In a few hours, they got evicted by someone from the official staff of the conference. What the fracking flooding fuck? I'll add more details after.

After playing around with @postmarketOS at #fosdem this weekend, I canceled my preorder of another phone and am going full on with PMOS. The gorgeous phosh-UI combined with fully OSS makes a strong case for this ecosystem.

FOSDEM achievement = unlocked: yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting @bagder in person and grab some cool #curl stickers, yay! 🥳
I was really sad to miss his keynote (early train, sigh), but I'm planning to watch it online.
It was amazing to meet so many wonderful people at #FOSDEM... I've already started a countdown on my phone for the next edition. I can't wait.

My trip finally begins : Tonight, the 
453 will bring me in a comfortable wagon-lits to Berlin, the first stop of my #FOSSRail trip from 🇧🇪 Brussels to 🇹🇭 Bangkok connecting the FOSDEM with the FOSSASIA by train.
I will spend the next two weeks on trains across 12 countries and 11.000 km on rails.
May the games begin ✊🏽.

Yesterday at #FOSDEM, a member of the European Parliament gave me an answer in front of hundreds of people. Based on that answer, I decided to start making stick drawings for the #LeaveX campaign. Should I continue?

What a whirlwind 72 hours in #Brussels for #FOSDEM! Everyone I met has been working so so hard to build technology explicitly trying to break out of a broken system of corporate hegemony. There were so many different fields present here but I primarily focused on the #fediverse track.

Un continuo trovarsi e perdersi, non ho fatto tutto quello che pensavo, ma ho fatto cose che non immaginavo avrei mai potuto fare.
E alla fine abbiamo trovato un bel posto per incontrarci tuttə. #cosebelle

My #FOSDEM highlights:
- OpenFlexure (openflexure.org/): an open-source microscope capable of functioning as a whole-slide scanner, with mostly 3D printed parts and a price tag of around 300 euros to buy a full assembly kit including 40x magnification lenses. Honestly, the images I saw were of the same quality as the very expansive scanners that produced the images I used during my thesis. Super impressive.
- xan (github.com/medialab/xan/), a command-line tool to manipulate CSV files. I'm not doing much data analysis these days but this looks like a very handy tool for tabular data handling!
- Execubot (execubot.fr/), a "serious game" to teach high school kids Python programming. Make a cute little robot move according to a set of instructions written in Python, or write the instructions yourself. Looks great.
In general I was very impressed by the insane amount of talent on display here, by people putting their work out there for everyone to use and build on.

Opening talk for FOSDEM is radically different from last years.
That was a great #FOSDEM again, met so many old friends and new people, saw interesting talks and had good technical discussions and some new ideas for things to try out now.
Some people I didn't run across, but the next event will come soon. 😀

Onderweg terug van FOSDEM. Genoten. De energie van duizenden krankzinnige technici, die over de meest uiteindelopende onderwerpen disproportioneel bevlogen kunnen zijn is een fenomeen op zich.
Het doet met goed dat het besef lijkt te landen, binnen en buiten de open source community, hoe radicaal vrije software eigenlijk is, doet me goed.
Next year, #FOSDEM will be IPv6 only.
So Github will break, as it is IPv4 only (unless they get their act together).
