IMATCH, DARKTABLE und die METADATEN

Digital Asset Management (DAM) + Bildbearbeitung machen heute (fast) alle, auch wenn es einem eventuell gar nicht so bewusst ist.

Hier eine Methode mit IMATCH und DARKTABLE, in der ich auch ausführlich auf die Nutzung der METADATEN in den unterschiedlichen SNS (Social Network Systems) eingehe.

Leider scheinen sowohl freie als auch kommerzielle SNS die Rechte und die Arbeit der Urheber – der Creators – zu ignorieren. Daher ist es aus meiner Sicht besonders wichtig, dass man ein ‚ordentliches‘ DAM fährt – wenn einem an den eigenen Erinnerungen liegt.

Lineated woodpecker

We encountered a few different woodpecker species in Colombia. The more striking ones are the crimson-crested woodpecker and the lineated woodpecker, which have a similar red mohawk hairstyle to the North American pileated woodpecker. This male was photographed in one of the palm forests near the coast of Tayrona National Park.

A large black woodpecker clings to a palm tree. The feathers on its head are red and stand up, forming a very interesting hairstyle. A white line traces from its beak to its shoulders. Just for shits and giggles (and because it was really cheap) I bought a MIDI controller to use with #darktable. I thought it might be a cool toy I would get bored of quickly... boy, was I wrong!

Having a dedicated hardware knob for the main sliders instead of tuning them on-screen with the mouse is a game-changer. Exposure, colour temperature, and contrast are _so_ quick to adjust now and I can keep looking at the photo while my hands do the work.

Andean motmot

We were lucky to see, and especially hear, multiple motmots in Colombia. Their hooting carries far in the forests they inhabit and adds to the already incredible soundscape of Colombian forests. This beautiful Andean motmot lives in the wet Andean forests, and we encountered it at the Tinamu Birding Nature Reserve.

Cygnus columbianus (tundra swan), Swan Lake a bit north of Reno, Nevada. And yes, that is really the lake's name. Swan lake is a ephemeral endorheic lake, although, it has been wet for over a decade.

Vermilion cardinal

On April 28, we visited La Guajira in northern Colombia, where we met this punky vermilion cardinal east of Camarones. It lives only on this peninsula and a few coastal areas in Venezuela. While the females have brown and beige plumage, the males are striking red.

Neither #Affinity nor #Darktable seemingly support 1D LUTs, which would have been too easy and useful for my #DigitalNegative preparation tool... Instead they both insist on using only 3D LUTs. Converting 1D to 3D takes a bit more effort, but thanks to thi.ng/transducers, it's still very easy...

Next up is #Islay. I would move there if I could - we stayed in a small guest house in Port Ellen. As soon as you get off the small prop plane you can smell the malt being peated. If you like Scotch Whisky this island is heaven. These pictures are from around Port Ellen.

Islay was also my wife and I’s first taste of driving on the opposite side of the road. Easy once you get past the initial shock!

After Edinburgh was #Glasgow. What a wonderful city - I really enjoyed it, and it is such a short train ride from Edinburgh. The park along the river is beautiful, and there are plenty of pedestrian-only thoroughfares in the central part of town. #Scotland

On Rose Street in #Edinburgh, there are a LOT of pubs. Took a few pictures of some in the daytime. We didn't go to any on this particular street, but we did go to a few near the hotel, and we also did the tour at the Johnnie Walker place - I recommend it, even if you don't care for whisky (nobody's perfect). Plus the tour includes 3 drinks 😀 #Scotland

In #Edinburg there is a beautiful walk along the Water of Leith - it is quiet, and set down in a valley near the main part of the city. It briefly feels like you've left the city environment completely. Many of the buildings along this area are old and fascinating. #Scotland

Each has a long upright tassel that sticks out in front of their face. Two are pointed toward the right and the one on the left has its back to the camera but is looking over its right shoulder.

Globular springtail from different angles. I just might have to get a print of some of these.

Today I drove out to get a landscape shot at sunrise. Picked up a leaf to check for springtails, and found this beautiful creature. Forgot all about landscapes... Favourite find so far.

A small section of saltmarsh remains toward the bottom of the frame as the tide floods in. A Redshank flying from right of frame passes low over a single Turnstone and four Dunlin feeding on this tiny island.

It looks like NegaFix in SilverFast SE Plus 9 provides nicer results more easily than processing the negative HDR in #Darktable or #RawTherapee. However, scratches/dust removal in SilverFast is terrible. Gimp is great for that as well as fixing the color temperature. Any thoughts?
