Asiatic dayflower (Commelina communis) wtih its with blue petals giving the amusing appearance of two large ears. This plant grows on degraded or polluted soils.

Some planted flowers spotted at the Wanaka Lavender Farm, New Zealand on 31 Dec 2025. In order of appearance, they are the Perennial Cornflower (Centaurea montana), Dahlia (genus Dahlia), Eryngos (genus Eryngium) and Chicory (genus Cichorium).

The warm winter has made a few things attempt to wake up early inside…including a brand new flower!
Iris tectorum is sometimes referred to as “roof iris” due to the tradition in China and Japan of growing it on top of thatched roofs of houses; a mountainous Chinese/Burmese native, it develops big floppy fans of leaves and then these fairly large, also rather flat (compared to other species) blooms with spectacular speckling and ridges down the middle of the falls.

Much in need of a repot…but despite that, discovered the largest pitcher yet on Nepenthes hamiguitanensis!
This wild Philippines species is thought to have originated as a natural hybrid at one point, possibly between micramphora and peltata, but is fully stabilized now. These chunky lowers will eventually give way to spectacular, often ghostly pale or highly mottled flaring uppers of decent size.

The tall flowers are phlox and shorties are day lilies. The pic was taken early in the morning just as the sun was rising. The colors are very intense.

Gone for a week, just a poor week... And the plant report is quite bad

4 lychees dead, but on the bright side, mango is still kicking, olive tree has double in size, all longans are ready to sprout hard, and most of the other randoms are also having a good enough time to thrive again, that's good to see

Yeah ok, it might not be as bad as I expected...

Makes me think, is anyone interested in greens around here ?
