Amazon canopy bridges enable 15,000 #wildlife crossings without a single roadkill news.mongabay.com/short-articl…

"Roads through #Brazil’s #forests divide primate habitat and sometimes force #animals onto the ground. Researchers in the #Amazon are testing rope bridges that allow them to cross above traffic... The bridges contain several layers of rope for species with different forms of movement. Some walk across them, while others swing by their arms or use their prehensile tails."

Brown Pelican Glide

This brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) had just completed a plunge dive when I snapped this image. Here, the bird is beginning its ascent, wings lifting as it shakes off the ocean’s surface. I followed it with my camera as it climbed higher and higher, gaining altitude with that steady, powerful rhythm pelicans have. A moment later it rose to a good height, banked slightly, and plunged again into the Gulf of Mexico.

Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

I Got a Peanut

A bright-eyed, red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) is perched on a tree limb with a peanut in its beak, showcasing its striking patterned plumage against a vivid blue sky. The bird's sharp beak and claws are prominently displayed as it grips the textured bark, ready to enjoy its find.

North America River Otter 🦦

Well here's a new one, didn't even know we had these here. I was out taking some photos yesterday morning and had called it quits. As I drove home I saw an eagle fly over a lake so I decided to stop. Some eagles and hawks were very upset up in the trees but no good views. I did a short hike to get down by the water where I did spot a Bald Eagle across from me. I took some photos and scanned the tree tops until I heard some grunting. To my left were two otters sitting on this log who had seen me first. One quick photo and they jumped in the water. I hiked further around the shore and back but never saw them again.

SNEK!!! for #WildlifeWednesday! 😱😍🐍

We were playing cards on the patio Sunday afternoon when suddenly, the chickens next to us made their !danger! bork. I looked and saw something moving in the grass. It was a grass #snake! The first I ever saw in real life!! 🥹 It was so beautiful and quite large (almost a metre)? It wiggled along the house, hiding in the gravel strip and then diving under the gravel like a badass.

I had no idea they lived here! (We have a lake 150 metres from here as the crow flies but the gardens in the neighbourhood are all quite new and, you know, "perfect lawn and a few flowers and shrubs" kind of gardens.) I'm concerned about the toads, lizards, and newts I spotted in our #garden over time, but it was such a cool creature to see. Oh, and I guess this fits #TongueOutTuesday too! 😌
