I've been around the Fediverse for a while, and been around computers and free software / open source for even longer, and I've always found #retrocomputing and people in instances like this one fascinating - but until recently I have not identified as one yet.

Given... recent trends... while I have felt the necessity to adopt technologies I find distasteful or ethically questionable to keep my $dayjob, that experience is increasingly bringing out the #NeoLuddite in me. So I'm here to seek refuge in retrocomputing and artisanal handmade code.

While I am trained as a software engineer, I believe that we should aspire to becoming craftspeople - and compared to the other, well regulated engineering discplines, "software engineering" is ... not it, especially now in its increasing #enshittification by #AIslop

I've been thinking a lot about myself, where I've come from, and where I'm going. I originally created this account to be able to express myself, but I feel as though I've fallen short on that goal. I also had the childish dream of becoming popular due to my (imagined) great insight or intelligence. I fear instead it became yet another feed to doomscroll. I think what I really want out of this is to reconnect with a past version of myself.

I'm well known as a gay bear IRL, but I did not want a bear fursona. Why? It felt too performative. My bear persona has given me a community to validate my physical body, and to find kinship, but I always presented a version of myself that was catered to my audience. Since admitting to being a furry would already break the mold of the mainstream bear establishment, I wanted to reach for something more personal...

My nick name, troschunk, is a reference to a naming method I like a lot: taking one word and repeating it in different languages. Some examples are "Vall d'Aran" (meaning valley of the valley) or "Roc del Quer" (meaning rock of the rock).

Tros is chunk in catalan and chunk is tros in english, the 2 languages I will use to post here. I also speak spanish (I am biligual ca-es) but "I would prefer not to".
