On September 2nd, 2026 I had the privilege of shooting this concert at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, IA. This was my first time working with a larger production. Most of my shoots are local bands in the area. I happened to already be going to this show and thought, hey, why not reach out and see if they want me to shoot?
And I’m glad I did. The marketing team were very friendly and opened their doors for me. I ended up staying and shooting the entire show from beginning to end and got some incredible shots.
This gig taught me a few things about concert photography, number one, I need to upgrade my lenses. Due to the low light nature of the venue, and the type of lighting the stage used, a lot of my photos had these unflattering lines that you can see across the skin of the performers. It proved to be pretty tricky to edit out. There’s a lot more I can do, but will need to invest more time in it.

White Sentinel in the Trees
I captured this image of a great egret perched in a tree beside a pond near Albany, Georgia. It reminds me of the pond just down the road from our house in Louisiana. When we first moved here, hundreds of egrets and herons would gather in the trees around that pond every evening. In the afternoons, I’d watch them flying in from every direction, all headed to the same roost.
But then a house went up right at the pond’s edge, and the birds must have decided to find a quieter, more private place to settle for the night.
