Hello fellow #gotosocial users - how is your instance doing and how much GBs of storage does it use at the moment? I'm at 2.2GB at the moment 🤔
WithGotoSocial it's easy to subscribe to relays, it works great. The best implementation of relays in every #fediverse software I tried.
For Hashtags I use fedi.buzz relay. For example relay.fedi.buzz/tag/gotosocial subscribes to everything #gotosocial.
Also general purpose relays relay.infosec.exchange/actor, relay.toot.io/actor and
rel.re/actor work without problems. For these you may want to create "matchers", they select which posts from the "big river of toots" the relays offer your instance will use, so you won't get "flooded"
I use relay.fedi.buzz/ & tags.pub/
Neither had any issues adding to my #goToSocial
I use "match all" as it's already specific
Is there any good way to find relay servers on the Fediverse? Specifically so I can subscribe to remote posts about a specific hashtag or group of hashtags to federate on my server?
I know I tried finding some a while ago but the way they were handled with sign-ups and requests were a bit strange to me so I gave up.

I was really happy to see @benpate and @dansup exploring similar ideas at the last FediCon: reducing user friction and making onboarding to the Fediverse almost invisible.
I’ve been working along the same lines. Here’s a small example: a user can interact with a #BadgeFed instance by simply logging in with #LinkedIn or #GitHub.
They can comment, upload images, like, boost, etc. They don’t need to know what the Fediverse is, what an instance is, or what software is running underneath.
For them, it’s just a social app.
Of course, existing Fediverse users can still connect with their Mastodon account or use their preferred Fediverse software.
Under the hood, it’s a #GoToSocial account configured with LinkedIn/GitHub OIDC OAuth.
But to the user? Completely transparent.
I think this kind of invisible complexity is one of the ways we can make the Fediverse much more approachable without sacrificing interoperability.

Gotosocial Reverse Proxy With Wireguard
Dear fellow or potential fellow gotosocial instance admins, I’ve come up with a novel way to set up a gotosocial server behind a reverse proxy, which avoids the use of making new firewalling rules - both on a VPS, and creating port forwarding on one’…Dustin Harriman
The relay relay.toot.io, and indeed any Activity-Relay service that uses the up-to-date version 2.0.11, now works correctly with GoToSocial:
github.com/yukimochi/Activity-…
If anyone is still having trouble connecting to services running the Activity-Relay software, you can:
- Gently poke the admins of those relays to update to v2.0.11, which is the only version currently that works with GtS.
- Then as GtS admin you can then try removing all previously-created connections to the relay (pushes and subscriptions), and recreating them in order to re-send the Follow activity. You should receive an accept within a few seconds if all goes well.
If you want posts to actually show up on the federated timeline of your instance, don't forget to either tick "match posts by default" when creating the subscription, or create appropriate relay matchers to pick which posts you want your instance to store + timeline.
gotosocial instance unable to subscribe · Issue #117 · yukimochi/Activity-Relay
Hello, I'm running GTS 0.22.1 and it's unable to subscribe to "relay.toot.io" In my GTS web panel I only see the relay status as not yet approved, but they say it should be accepted automatically. ...roughnecks (GitHub)
I also love to see #GotoSocial making well deserved waves, they are one of the most popular projects on Codeberg!

Folks self-hosting on the fediverse:
I am setting up a #GoToSocial instance for myself only.
It looks like #relays are the answer for populating timelines and making sure your own posts find their way beyond your bubble.
But I am wondering about resource usage. What are the cost efficient ways (resource cost, but also literal VPS cost!) to improve my timeline and my own posts' reach on my own single-user #GoToSocial instance?
DID YOU KNOW: In #GoToSocial, if you go to your account settings and change your layout to "Gram-style", you can set the web view of your profile to show an instagram-like grid of photos to visitors.
This is handy for folks that primarily post photographs or other media and want to highlight that when people visit their profile on the web 😀
We wrote this feature quite a while ago but not that many people know about it!

Hello hello, here's a #GoToSocial bugfix release! v0.22.1 Shrubbier Sloth 🌿🌿!
codeberg.org/superseriousbusin…
If you're updating to this version from v0.22.0, it's a very easy update with no db migrations.
If you're updating to this version from a version before v0.22.0, please follow the update instructions from v0.22.0, but replace 0.22.0 with 0.22.1 throughout. Be aware that the update to 0.22.x contains some serious database migrations. Please do read the notes carefully!
If you're on current main/snapshot, stay there. You already have all the bugfixes from here, and going backwards won't work.
Release highlights
- Bug fixes!
- Hide instance directory link when directory is not enabled.
- Few dependency updates.
- Add more gay kissing to the code.
v0.22.0 Shrubby Sloth 🌿 - superseriousbusiness/gotosocial
Hello! Hello! Is it sloth you're looking for? I can see it in your eyes! Here's version 0.22.0 of GoToSocial, aka **Shrubby Sloth 🌿**.Codeberg.org
i've got a connection who's into #crochet #knitting and other #fiberarts is there a big presence on #fediverse for this sort of thing?
i'm trying to get her off of #instagram and show her there's another way using #mastodon, #pleroma, #gotosocial or #mitra to explore the ecosystem.
any instances dedicated to this? if now i may build one for her.
I may not be following the correct steps myself.
Hi everyone!! ❤
Over the last week your generous donations to #GoToSocial have brought our OpenCollective budget up from ~€450 per month to the current total estimate of €950 per month!! That's amazing, thank you so much to everyone who has donated, and boosted our fundraising posts (see thread above)
That means we're a lot closer to our initial goal of getting an estimated monthly budget of €2,500 so that Tobi (writing this post) and Kim can pay themselves a supplementary wage of €1,000 each every month.
Can you help us reach €2,500 a month, to make our work on GoToSocial less stressful and haphazard? We have yearly, monthly, and custom donations available:

Thank you again for reading, boosting, and/or donating, everything helps ❤

I have a #gotosocial instance and I am heavily modifying the look and feel to match my other projects, and I LOVE IT
Thanks @gotosocial for making it easy
#gts #gotosocial #gtsholmirdas
Thank you so much for all your help so far 😍 Wow!
With the donations we've reached overnight, according to OpenCollective we now have an estimated monthly budget of €727!
For our first goal we're aiming for an estimated monthly budget of €2,500, so that we can pay hosting costs and pay ourselves €1,000 each per month as a basic supplement.
So we're still looking for an extra €1773 per month! Can you help us with a monthly (or yearly) donation?

Thank you so much again for helping to make #GoToSocial development easier + less stressful for us (Tobi + Kim).

Dug into the ActivityPub platforms beyond Mastodon with current FediDB numbers (June 2026): Misskey and its fork family, Pleroma and Akkoma, Friendica, GoToSocial, and the Threadiverse.
Misskey's custom emoji culture runs deeper than it sounds. Instances maintain hand-drawn reaction libraries that federate across the network. The closest analogue is early Slack workspace emoji culture, but federated.
Friendica has been federating since 2010 via its own DFRN protocol, Diaspora*, and OStatus. It added ActivityPub in 2019, consistent with its core goal of bridging every federation protocol it can reach.
Part 1 of the "Fediverse Beyond Mastodon" series inside the greater "Exploring the Fediverse" series. Part 2 will cover the visual fediverse: Pixelfed, Loops, and PeerTube.

Mastodon is the platform most people land on but it's not the only thing growing on the reef. Misskey built an expression-first culture. Friendica has been bridging networks since 2010. GoToSocial made the personal instance practical.Federated Mind
Does anybody running #gotosocial is having issues with relay subscription? In my case it stays in a not approved status forever
One nice thing about new relay feature on #gotosocial is separation of relay pushes and subscription.
Any regular user can add relay pushes connection so their posts can be more discoverable on #fediverse if they want it.
Third release candidate for v0.22.0 of #GoToSocial!
codeberg.org/superseriousbusin…
Compared to rc2:
- Unfollow relay actor if no connections exist targeting that actor (allows retrying establishing relay connection by removing all connections to an actor + creating a new one).
- Fix erroneus use of
RelayConnectionCreateRequestwhen updating a relay push. - Don't error on
db.ErrNoEntriesinOnMediaDereferencecallback. - Disable outgoing http2 requests until superseriousbusiness/httpsig is updated, as our signatures were getting messed up by http2 transport.
- Only mark status as edited for streaming hooks if edited_at column has changed.
- Remove admin check on user-level relay push matchers.
- Set
statuses-cleanup-remote-older-thanto"0s", skip scheduling if 0.
Fingers crossed this is the last one 😀
Thanks for all the help finding bugs, everyone ❤

As promised here's the second release candidate for #GoToSocial v0.22.0:
codeberg.org/superseriousbusin…
Compared to the first release candidate:
- Fixed a bug that was causing migrations on SQLite to fail with an erroneous
out of memorypanic. - Fixed a bug with streaming + assets endpoints on split-domain deployments.

Alright due to the bug in #GoToSocial v0.22.0-rc1 specifically for SQLite users which causes migrations to fail, we recommend SQLite users wait for v0.22.0-rc2, which we'll be releasing shortly (hopefully within a couple hours). (Postgres users are unaffected.)
Thanks for your patience! And thanks for the bug reporters for notifying us about it! ❤

features for the next #GoToSocial release (v0.22.0) are prettymuch complete, now it's just a matter of bugfixing and doing little chores to make the release (candidate) as nice as possible
i'm going through issues and logs and looking for annoying little things i feel like fixing before we call it a day and make a git tag
