* #fedipage looks good, but depends on firebase and versal, so doesn't let me avoid big tech

Can we literally not host a federated blog on our own servers without big American tech companies involved? At least micro.blog is a small American tech company, so they might be the way I have to go. Or just, you know, not do this at all.

I wrote about the mythology of the night dancer, one of the most evil characters from this part of the world (East Africa), but whose stories always end up in horror-comedies. When you talk about a night dancer in Uganda, people expect a good laugh.... But my short film is more #dance than horror, a revenge fantasy. Anyway, if you enjoy folk stories and mythologies and zombies have a read.

Today marks the 2-month anniversary of my #selfhosting journey: on Dec 17 I signed up for a VPS and installed #YunoHost mastodon.social/@_elena/113667…

I have never felt more empowered, tech-wise, than in the past two months. I set up my own #GoToSocial, #Pixelfed and #Friendica instances. Seeing the label "admin" next to my name always makes me smile.

Today I will sign up for a 2nd VPS (that runs on Ubuntu) and manually install #Ghost. Wish me luck!

My partner and I are planning out a short comic around the Sri Lankan ghost story, Mahasona (my partner is from Sri Lanka).

These are a few sketches I did related to that.

We decided Gotaimbara is a good cook - that's not necessarily canon. Also, we weren't sure what Gotaimbara's wife's name was, so we named her "Puthama" after my partner's grandmother.

The Fediverse isn't just sharing links to other platforms, it goes a lot deeper than that. Fediverse discussions and interactions happen across multiple platforms. This happens so seamlessly, you may not even realise it is happening.

For example, I replied to a PeerTube account's post from Mastodon, and my reply appeared on PeerTube (see screenshots).

The significance of the recent #Ghost announcement is people on Mastodon etc will be able to interact seamlessly with Ghost blogs.
