Why do you say that? After shifting the Disintermedia blog to community-hosted Ghost I have a few grizzles, but overall I'm finding it a great improvement on the bloat of SS.
My grizzles with Ghost;
* hardcoded dependence on;
1) commercial email sender
2) one payments processor
* AP module has to be set up separately (how about a single Docker image that deploys both as an option?)
* no footnotes

you MUST take a look at the friendica project!
There is a Fediverse alternative to Substack called Ghost. It allows you to host blogs and newsletters in a very similar way to Substack, but it has much less problematic management and you can host your own Ghost-powered site if you want to.

you should live stream video w/o any middleman using #owncast. make video shows available via #peertube. articles via #ghost. and podcasts of course. that's decentralized media keeping us free from corporate control.
and fedi (which you're on here, thank you) allowing the public to collectively decide what ideas and perspectives deserve attention. again without corporate influence.
the last piece is direct funding via a protocol. #interledger and #GNUtaler are working on that.

Really nice to see how they've implemented ActivityPub in the site management interface. Will be interesting to see if people want to subscribe to a monthly update on the fediverse, or just get an email like it's 1995 still 😀

The Ghost project promptly merged a PR I made make find-replace safer by default. That response prompted me to contribute more, this time by making find-replace to be even safer by default, now by saving a new "post revision" by default.

I'm looking for advice on migrating away from Mailchimp, and using Ghost instead. There's a nice fella in Germany that someone here mentioned recently who offers a fully maintained Ghost setup at very fair prices.
But when I search this topic all I get is tech outlines on how to move the list from one system to another. I already have a website and a blog on my own server. Still trying to get my head around how best to setup Ghost just for the purpose of a mailing list.
It's conceptual not technical. I want to envisage how this might look before I get too far down the road.
