Update. After the National Academy of Sciences (#NAS) refused in March to delete the chapter on #climate science from its reference manual for judges…
fediscience.org/@petersuber/11…

…the #Trump admin jacked up the pressure, in part through the juvenile insults on Truth Social. The NAS has now deleted the chapter.

While the #Trump #EPA starts repealing #climate regulations…
fediscience.org/@petersuber/11…

…the Federal Judicial Center (#FJC) is removing the chapter on climate science from its "reference manual" advising federal judges on scientific issues. The removal was recommended by 27 #Republican attorneys general.
arstechnica.com/science/2026/0…

PS: The FJC manual is prepared with the National Academies of Science (#NAS). But I can't tell whether NAS acquiesced in this move. Does anyone know?

Thanks to RealClimate.org for posting the deleted 91-page chapter on climate science.

EDIT. I meant to update this post with the NAS decision, but inadvertently made it a separate post rather than a reply in the same thread. Here it is (March 18, 2026).

Why aren't we seeing headlines like

"Big Oil causes forest fires across the planet"

"Greenhouse gas emissions dry up European rivers"

"Climate change destroys crops"?

Dogs developed specialized traits matching each region’s #climate and needs, from #Arctic sled dogs built for hauling to agile #tropical hunting dogs, resulting in a varied set of co-evolutionary paths across the globe.

I just learned about an incredible #solarpunk resource I'm saving and sharing everywhere:

opensustain.tech/ @opensustaintech

A directory and analysis of the open source ecosystem in the areas of climate change, sustainable energy, biodiversity and natural resources.

Huge thanks to @eff3rvecenteden for showing it to me!

The American Meteorological Society’s annual “State of the Climate” for 2025 is out.

From the Arctic Chapter: "The Arctic had its second-warmest year in the 126-year record. Surface air temperatures in the Arctic are increasing at roughly three times the global average rate.”

Beautiful post, beautiful story, wonderful actions, great research, deeply hopeful and human, and touching grass, and being present. And tomatoes make the best sandwiches.

Let a thousand tomato flowers bloom. Let's begin discussions with Saharan nations with the aim of turning the vast dryness into homes, forests and farms. With solar panels.

MIT has a desalination system that operates without power,. Sit it beside the ocean, fresh water comes out at about the cost of tap water forever, no plugin.

Solar energy is arriving as trillions of photons over and over again. Set up a solar panel get energy for free forever.

Only shitty shtty ego-twisted, psychopathically arrogant, billionaires stand in our way.

Bab-el-Mandeb strait was supposed to be the “backup” route when the Strait of Hormuz became a war zone.

The latest sinking of a vessel in Bab-el-Mandeb makes one thing abundantly clear: Global economies can’t afford to be held hostage by fossil fuel chokepoints.

Reminder: there is a much more stable and safe route to power our world that is already available. It’s called Renewable Energy 👇🏽

Paleoecologist Alberto Cruz spotted its unusual #bones while reviewing a collection untouched for nearly 30 years. The team also found a toad whose closest living relatives now live 2,400 km (1,500 mi) away, a clue to how #LosAngeles’s #climate changed at the end of the last #iceage.

And all we need to do is stop burning oil and coal, we have half of it built now, this AINT HARD. NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

Dont need to learn a new philosophy, art style, eating program or prevent construction of schools.

Just build solar, build wind, build grids, and SAVE MONEY. Because the new energy is CHEAPER than oil, and it doesnt RUN OUT, or get held up in the middle east.

Just effing build it all.now

Just build it

Its NOT ROCKET SCIENCE OR SECRET!!

BURNING
BURNING!
