Summer spends lots of time with her pal and he spends a good part of his day in a recliner in front of a pretty big television screen. She watches too and is especially interested when there are animals. What she wanted to ask me about was commercials. She wants to know why wrinkles are bad and need to be dealt with. She pointed out that she personally has a lot of wrinkles. I laughed and said that we have wrinkles in common. I told her that humans often equate less wrinkles with youth and because advertisers know that humans equate youth with looking more desirable they can sell people potions promising a younger look. It is convoluted and nonsensical because humans who are old really can't hide it and people who are young are all beautiful. There isn't really a go back potion. I told her I plan to keep my wrinkles and my money and be satisfied with how I look for my age. She said good. She will too. #Summer

We woke up to a not raining morning. My husband was feeling rested and much more comfortable than yesterday. It felt like an opportunity so Summer and I gave him a big cup of hot chocolate and promised we would be right back. The beach seemed like the best option as there are lots of duck hunters around many of our usual destinations. The light wasn't the best for photos but we didn't feel too cold and the fresh air was welcome. We had fun and hurried home. Good morning, Mastodon. #Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer works hard. She is happiest when she feels useful. When we work on laundry together it is her job to pick up anything that falls out of a basket as the dirty clothes make their way from the upstairs bedrooms to the downstairs laundry room. Stray socks or washcloths are her favorite finds. This is a very important task and she never fails. We are so, so happy to report that yesterday's drain repair seems to be holding and all of the laundry will be clean, dry and folded by the end of the day #Summer #DogsOfMastodon

We are feeling really good this morning. My cup of coffee is perfect. Summer is warm, soft and so, so sweet. I count on this cuddle to get me going and she never lets me down. Summer says she needs me, too. Awe. Today, we need all of the gumption we can muster to clean up and mow our front acre before the rains come. Summer assures me we've got this. Yesterday, we found out that we are approved for a grant to earthquake retrofit our foundation. I think I found a contractor to do it, fingers crossed. When you live in the middle of nowhere the friend, of a friend, connection might be the best one to have. On top of that I found someone to fix our furnace and get us winter ready. Summer cracks me up. She goes from happiest dog ever to this in the blink of an eye. The one, only one, neighbor who walks by everyday is the sole recipient of this look. She knows I don't allow her to bark at him but she makes sure that he understand that he is to stay on the other side of the property line. Summer's expressions don't leave room for doubt how she feels. As soon as he is out of sight she wiggles over to me for some pets and belly rubs all smiles again. Funny dog. #Summer #DogsOfMastodon
