We woke up to a not raining morning. My husband was feeling rested and much more comfortable than yesterday. It felt like an opportunity so Summer and I gave him a big cup of hot chocolate and promised we would be right back. The beach seemed like the best option as there are lots of duck hunters around many of our usual destinations. The light wasn't the best for photos but we didn't feel too cold and the fresh air was welcome. We had fun and hurried home. Good morning, Mastodon. #Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer works hard. She is happiest when she feels useful. When we work on laundry together it is her job to pick up anything that falls out of a basket as the dirty clothes make their way from the upstairs bedrooms to the downstairs laundry room. Stray socks or washcloths are her favorite finds. This is a very important task and she never fails. We are so, so happy to report that yesterday's drain repair seems to be holding and all of the laundry will be clean, dry and folded by the end of the day #Summer #DogsOfMastodon

We are feeling really good this morning. My cup of coffee is perfect. Summer is warm, soft and so, so sweet. I count on this cuddle to get me going and she never lets me down. Summer says she needs me, too. Awe. Today, we need all of the gumption we can muster to clean up and mow our front acre before the rains come. Summer assures me we've got this. Yesterday, we found out that we are approved for a grant to earthquake retrofit our foundation. I think I found a contractor to do it, fingers crossed. When you live in the middle of nowhere the friend, of a friend, connection might be the best one to have. On top of that I found someone to fix our furnace and get us winter ready. Summer cracks me up. She goes from happiest dog ever to this in the blink of an eye. The one, only one, neighbor who walks by everyday is the sole recipient of this look. She knows I don't allow her to bark at him but she makes sure that he understand that he is to stay on the other side of the property line. Summer's expressions don't leave room for doubt how she feels. As soon as he is out of sight she wiggles over to me for some pets and belly rubs all smiles again. Funny dog. #Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is amazing. She was all cozied up to her pal. All of the sudden she wiggled out and hopped up on my lap. I'm rarely her first choice for a cuddle so I was surprised. As soon as she leaned in to me and put her head on my cheek I felt the beginning of the most extreme panic attack I have ever experienced. She stayed close and quiet until I felt better. She knows things. I don't know how she knows but she does. The power of Summer's love has been the gift of a lifetime. I am thankful. Maybe I should spend an hour in Hyrule where the bad guys are easier to vanquish and the good guys will win in the end. Summer says heck yes. She loves to watch. #Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer started her morning on my lap like she always does but she switched to give her pal some attention while I cook breakfast. She is excited to see us and secure some cuddles every morning. My old worn out garden gloves are Summer's most prized possession. She carries them around and sleeps with them under her chin. The fact that she will share with her pal and let him hold the gloves means she loves him dearly. Early morning coffee, muffins, cuddles and planning for our day is happening. Today, I will pick up my copies of Matt Beard's new book. I will send a few to Mastodon friends, local friends, relatives and will donate copies to all local schools and libraries.
