From the day I was going to take a few pictures of the rowan berries outside my window, but got distracted when I noticed something through the branches (In case you don’t know my favourite distraction - it was a cat resting on a bench in my garden).

Hier après-midi, je suis resté au moins 10 minutes photographier les feuilles de fougère dans ce coin de sous-bois, avec une magnifique lumière filtrée par la ramure des arbres et en arrière-plan, la surface du Corroac'h, ruisseau avec encore un peu d'eau pour un beau bokeh des reflets.

Macro doesn't always require a macro lens.
Just look at this tiny mushroom growing from a mossy log in the forest.
Taken shortly before our encounter with the Eurasian eagle-owl at Surea Dorst, this little scene was almost easy to overlook. The Canon 5D Mark IV with the Sigma 100–400mm managed to isolate the mushroom beautifully, with the forest falling away into a soft blur behind it.
I love these little moments. You can walk through a forest looking for something spectacular and still end up stopping for something barely noticed by anyone else.
Sometimes you just have to look a little closer.

When visiting Mount Martha a few months ago I took a morning walk with some friends along the Balcombe Estuary Boardwalk Circuit. It's an absolutely gorgeous walk. The place is beautiful, and the thick trees provide a nice shade that allows the sunlight to filter through in a very satisfying way.
I'm dropping this in as a #shittember entry. In my eyes, the focus isn't really great on the image and I can't get the lighting dynamics quite right. I like the image but posting this one makes me a bit uncomfortable, and (at least to me) #shittember is somewhat about easing up on yourself, freeing yourself of those performance criteria, and just doing it anyway, so here it is.
