Photo de la mer au lever du soleil. Le ciel est barrĂ© de nuages aux couleurs allant du brun au dorĂ© en passant par l'orange et le violet. La mer est bleu indigo presque noir. Au centre, sur la ligne d'horizon, on voit la silhouette de la cime des montagnes Corses. La partie gauche de ce mirage semble la proie d'un gigantesque incendie : c'est le soleil qui se lĂšve juste en dessous. A droite de l'image, on voit la silhouette floue de feuilles de palmier. L’explication c’est que la variation de densitĂ© de l'atmosphĂšre induit un phĂ©nomĂšne de rĂ©fraction qui dĂ©vie les rayons lumineux. C’est-Ă -dire que plus un objet est observĂ© « bas » sur l’horizon, plus les rayons lumineux qui en proviennent sont dĂ©viĂ©s. Ce phĂ©nomĂšne varie en fonction de la hauteur du soleil mais dĂ©pend aussi de la pression atmosphĂ©rique et de la tempĂ©rature, il est ainsi possible de voir une partie de la Corse qui se trouve pourtant sous l'horizon.
