#Equinox blessings. Take what helps you, leave modify change or what doesn’t. Please add your own if you like!

Northern ❄️🌸🌞
May you appreciate each blossom because it is fleeting
May you not begrudge the wind or the sun their work
May your find unexpected connections
May you make space for new growth

Southern 🍃🍁🕯️
May you find softness and warmth
May you find pockets of vibrancy
May you feel free to rest and cozy up
May abundance outweigh scarcity in your heart

As of 14.46 today, Friday 20 March, the sun moves over the equator from the southern hemisphere into the northern hemisphere.
The exact moment marks the vernal or spring equinox, day and night are of equal length and winter becomes spring in the northern hemisphere while summer changes to autumn in the southern hemisphere.
Thought this photograph of Northumberland's Warkworth Castle, against blue skies with the slopes of its impressive keep bedecked in daffodils, made an ideal image to mark the arrival of spring.

We send greetings to all of our gardening friends, both north and south, on the equinox. For us it means more sunlight and warmer days ahead. BeetBear is taking the time to clean off his sign on our tool shed door. Two years ago he was posing with his violets and dandelions in the orchard, but this year we're a long way from that yet - it's been way too cold.

Down at Nobles Quay on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland this evening as the sun dipped behind the bridges connecting the north and south banks a little further upstream.
It was the perfect end to what has been a lovely spring-like day, which perhaps is not too surprising seeing as how spring officially arrives this coming Friday.

Mabon greetings to all who mark it - the inner alchemy of 'gratitude and balance', a careful harvesting of resources for the long winter, like all the many before. Cold chill overnight, bright blue this morning to lift the heart, leaves on the Japanese acer already edged with bronze. Here's to stepping out of the jaggedness of the current timeline and back into the rhythm of the year.

I started my Equinox celebrations with a morning walk through the woods to harvest some witch hazel. The first thing I saw when stepping outside was a beautiful fox in the yard, the golden hour sun lighting up its fur like blazing copper.

It's been raining for days, and the smell of wet leaves and spongey soil is glorious. The mushrooms are bountiful. The witching season is upon us, and the autumnal portents are good!

Heading into the last weekend of summer (the autumnal equinox arrives on Monday).
This is the footbridge at Cox Green, Sunderland, spanning the River Wear and still tidal at this location.
The bridge used to be the site of a small ferry crossing, used frequently by those living on the south side of the river who worked at the huge Washington Chemical Works, located on the north side of the river.
The ferry was effectively made redundant when the bridge opened to the public on 5th July, 1958.
The chemical works was established in the first half of the 19th century and produced a range of products, but concentrating on the production of magnesia.
In recent years, the contaminated land was made safe and is now occupied by housing.
Cox Green is now a quiet picturesque hamlet, passed by those walking and cycling along the paths which line both sides of the river.

Happy equinox, the traditional time for the festival of Ostara. In 2023, I made this mixed-media artwork inspired by Pagan tradition.

Welcome Spring Equinox!

Had to bundle up for the dog walk this AM - In the vicinity of the North Atlantic - the first day of Spring is dripping with condensation from the warming seas.
