Something I really like about Forgejo is how seriously they are taking software freedom.
- They use Forgejo itself as their git forge, not GitHub
- No reliance or linking to proprietary corporate services such as Patreon, Twitter, Facebook etc. They use Mastodon and Liberapay.
- No Dockerhub, their OCI images are on Codeberg.
- No Discord! (really hate how many FOSS projects use it)
- Their documentation does not recommend proprietary developer tools such as VSCode or Sublime Text.
- They recently switched to a copyleft license
Very refreshing, considering how many other popular git forges are either proprietary or "open-core"
What's your favourite #FreeSoftware that is #NotOnGitHub (or on other proprietary code forges like #GitLab.com)?
Let us know in the comments! Feel free to also share code from other #Forgejo instances, #Sourcehut or other platforms.

For hosting of Git-projects there are several #opensource options. The best known is #GitLab, some functionality is not free available though. Other options are @Codeberg and @forgejo and @gitea
There are probably several more. Extra information is welcome.

Truly an amazing talk from @torgo at the Open Source Summit.
Everyone should watch it but *especially* anyone involved in open source.

Pipe Viewer 1.8.9 is released today - ivarch.com/programs/pv.shtml
Pipe Viewer - pv - is a terminal-based tool for monitoring the progress of data through a Unix pipeline. It can be inserted into any normal pipeline between two processes to give a visual indication of how quickly data is passing through, how long it has taken, how near to completion it is, and an estimate of how long it will be until completion.
This release adds a new SI units feature supplied by Kevin Ruddy, incorporates French translations supplied by Thomas Bertels, and fixes bugs with TMPDIR support and blocking output.
PV uses the resources of the @Codeberg platform for free software development.
The third party Android app Fedilab (which lets you use Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, Friendica etc) is now free on Google Play, and continues to be free on F-Droid too. If you haven't tried it yet, this might be a good time:
➡️ play.google.com/store/apps/det…
➡️ f-droid.org/en/packages/fr.gou…
(It was previously paid on Google Play and free on F-Droid.)
There's a review of the app on the fedi.tips website:
