Announces each fake bold and fake italic letter individually, including its case and style.
Building accessible applications is not about respect.
It‘s about a goddamn human right and also avoiding technical debt by following standards and convetions. Stop downplaying this. And stop making yourselves look like you care about people. #accessibility #a11y
#Blind users, users that rely heavily on #keyboardNavigation or anyone else with a preference on that matter (please indicate what applies in the comments):
Do you have a preference for or comments on the format of URLs? During user research, we have learned that URLs that are easy to handle are a good thing.
We are currently considering to introduce URLs that do not need more reserved usernames in #Forgejo, such as codeberg.org/-/something/ or codeberg.org/_something/.
Ever seen fancy italics, bold text, or even gothic letters in a slick marketing post on social media?
These platforms do not offer text formatting, so people use weird mathematical characters from the fringes of the Unicode spectrum. And because they aren't really letters screen reader software will announce them as silence or incomprehensible garbage.

Don’t Use Fake Bold or Italic in Social Media
I posted something on Mastodon that uses Unicode math symbols to produce fake bold and fake italic text. I used YayText.com to generate it, but I am not linking it because you I don’t want you to use it.Adrian Roselli

Today I broke an #accessibility feature on my site, and turned off #audio for UK users.
Everyone else can listen as usual. UK users cannot.
You can still read the text. But you can't hear the #accessible version.

The United Kingdom has passed a law called the Online Safety Act, which impacts what I can show users who are based in the UK. You can no longer listen to the audio if you are browsing this site from a UK IP address.Girl on the net (Girl on the Net)
How about #accessibility ?
Some user experience to share ?

As someone who is totally blind, the Fediverse is the only place where I have ever been able to follow people such as photographers, artists, or even those who post pictures of their cats or the food they ate. The reason is that most of them use alt text. They take the time to describe the images that my screen reader can't recognise. Some write the descriptions themselves, and others use tools such as altbot. Some worry that their descriptions aren't good enough, especially when they are new at this. Let me assure you, not only are they good enough, they are extremely appreciated! If the rest of the world thought as you did, it would be a much better place. Don't hesitate to ask if you're unsure of something, but never think that we don't notice your effort.

There’s no right way to be disabled.
The idea that someone has to “look” disabled or meet certain criteria to be taken seriously is harmful and limiting.
Disability comes in countless forms, and every person’s story is different.

🎉 I’m diving into Home Assistant for the first time and I’m curious to hear what others think from a blind user’s perspective! I’ve been exploring the iPhone app with VoiceOver, and it seems pretty accessible so far.
Currently, I’ve got:
🗣️ 3 Amazon Echo devices
🎵 2 HomePod Minis
🔔 2 Ring Video Doorbells
🛡️ SimpliSafe Security System
I’m looking to expand my setup soon and would love to hear from the community—what’s your experience with Home Assistant, especially when using screen readers? Is there anything I should keep in mind?
Also, if there’s a way to get in touch with support or help out with testing accessibility, let me know!
