As ever, thanks everyone for #Pachli feedback and bug reports.
I'm travelling until the end of January, so while the January release will happen, I expect it will only include the hard work of all the people who have contributed new and updated translations.

A new #Pachli Current is rolling out with a handful of cosmetic changes and bug fixes for #quoteposts.
User visible changes are:
1. If your server allows quoting the "boost" button now also shows a pair of quotes.
2. Following feedback, the background colour for quotes/ preview cards in light mode is slightly darker and in dark mode is slightly lighter.
Now in #Pachli Current: viewing the "detailed" version of a post (the one you see after tapping on it) now shows -- next to the number of boosts and favourites -- the number of times the post has been quoted (if this is your post, Mastodon doesn't let you see this information for posts written by others).
Tapping that number will show you a timeline of those posts so you can see how you're being quoted, and, optionally, remove your quoted post from them.
The #quoteposts support in #Pachli Current continues.
If someone has quoted one of your posts you can now remove the quote from their post.
The attached screenshot shows the new "Remove quote" button on a quote of one of the posts from this account.
The new #Pachli Current supports #quoteposts notifications. You'll see if someone quoted one of your posts, or if a post you quoted has been edited.
Work in progress:
- Detach #quotes of your posts from other people's posts.
- UI to manage your quote-related preferences.
- Writing posts that quote other posts.
Well, that didn't take long: fosstodon.org/@favogiuseppo@le…
On @pachli (the main way I use Mastodon) it looks like the screenshot in my timeline.
Not boosted, no hashtags, and I don't follow the poster. However on the web interface of Mastodon it does show the linuxmint hashtag, which I do follow, so that explains it. I guess the problem is that #Pachli doesn't show the hashtag for some reason?
#Pachli Current is rolling out with initial support for displaying #QuotePosts.
Details, including screenshots, open questions, and the best way to provide feedback, are all at pachli.app/pachli/2025/11/13/q….
Pachli Current is rolling out with support for viewing posts containing quotes on supported Mastodon servers. What you should expect:Pachli
The new #Pachli Current implements a suggestion from @blitter, and shows an account's pronouns.
This is a feature from #glitchsoc, also in (at least) @apps and @moshidon.
Pronouns are shown in the "account info" area at the top of each post or notification, so this area has been redesigned slightly. The account's handle now always appears on the second line.
They're also shown when replying to an existing post, the auto-complete popup, and when searching for posts.
I don't think this is the final way quote posts will be presented in #Pachli and it's not ready for release yet (not even in Pachli Current), but quote posts do display now.
To set expectations, I don't think this will be ready for inclusion in the release at the end of this month, but it should be in Pachli Current early next month so early adopters can try it and provide feedback.
The new #Pachli Current takes a big step towards supporting display of quote posts.
Quoted posts aren't shown yet, but there's been a large refactoring of the code to make it a lot easier (github.com/pachli/pachli-andro…).
Quote post display should be ready for testing by the end of next week.
There are some positive changes in behaviour because of this:
Previous code had most of the status display code in StatusBaseViewHolder, with specialised viewholders per type (detailed, conversation, notification, etc). This was a problem for several reasons:...GitHub
As part of refactoring work to make implementing quote posts easier, #Pachli Current is rolling out with UX improvements when you interact with posts, especially favourite or boost.
Previously, the icon would change, but the associated count wouldn't. So you could have a post that was boosted but showed 0 boosts. Now the number changes as soon as you press the button. When the boost completes on your server the post is also updated to reflect it's latest data.
Coming soon to #Pachli Current - reorder attachments.
There are three ways to do this:
1. If an attachment can be moved then accessible "Move up" and "Move down" menu items appear for it.
2. Or drag the drag-handle that will appear under each preview image.
3. Or long-press anywhere in the attachment to start dragging.
If you use #TalkBack with #Pachli I've got a question about including emojis when reading out an account's name.
Suppose an account has a name like "My name
"
Right now the "blobcat" part of the emoji is read out when reading the name of the poster.
Is that useful? Or would it be better to strip emojis from account names before reading them?
# Pachli 2.16.1 is released
In #Pachli 2.16.0 content filters configured to **hide** posts **were not** being applied to public timelines (local, federated, trending, hashtags, and links), resulting in users seeing posts they expected to be removed.
Content filters set to warn **were** applied correctly, as were account filters, and any filters for your home and notification timelines.
Thanks to @dhamlinmusic for reporting this.

Work on #Pachli 3.0.0 is starting.

Pachli 2.16.0 marks the end of the 2.x.x releases. Pachli 2.0.0 introduced support for server-side translation, and implementing client-side translation was always going to close it out.Pachli
There's another wave of #spam / #phishing doing the rounds, with accounts pretending to be your server administrators asking you to visit dodgy websites and enter your username and password.
First, obviously, don't do that.
Second, if you use #Pachli you'll be easily able to tell which accounts have special roles on your server and can be trusted.
pachli.app/pachli/2025/07/30/2…
Pachli 2.15.0 is now available. This release improves user safety by highlighting roles on accounts, updates the UI for Android’s edge-to-edge support, and has multiple improvements for video playback and emoji display and management.Pachli
The new #Pachli Current has support for on-device translation.
**None of your personal information, or the text you are translating, is sent to Google.**
**The Google Translate app does not need to be installed on your device for this feature.**
Here's the behaviour you'll see by default when you use the "Translate" menu on a post.
1/4
Coming to #Pachli Current in a few days - support for translating posts on your device.
Helpful if your server doesn't support translation, and can be used to translate posts your server refuses to translate.
Won't be available in the #FDroid and #GitHub releases, as this feature uses the same non-free Google machine learning libraries as the "Warn if you're posting in the wrong language" feature.
The next #Pachli will show any roles accounts you see have. Hopefully this will make it easier to trust posts from official accounts on your server, and easier to confirm you're writing to the account you expect.
The screenshots show the "Staff" role that some Mastodon accounts have. This is shown far from any user-written text, so it can't be spoofed (e.g., with an emoji).
The UX here will probably change in response to feedback.
A #Pachli Current update is rolling out which adds edge-to-edge support.
This update may trigger an Android bug. The symptom is the animation when moving between screens appears to glitch. If this happens to you please can you let me know.
The fix is to restart your device.
The cause is an Android bug where an animation cache is not cleared when you update an app. Restarting the device causes Android to clear the cache.
With that out of the way...
Are you using #Pachli with a Pixel 9? I've had a report from a user of that device that notification loading is very "choppy", with the same notifications appearing to reload repeatedly.
That's definitely not the expected behaviour; the attached video shows how notifications are supposed to load/refresh, and I can't reproduce the problem. So I'm trying to narrow down if it's device specific.
If your notification loading doesn't look like this, please let me know (and include your device info).
I've been talking to @ozoned on the **Fireside Fedi** (@firesidefedi) podcast, and to @kevie and @thelovebug on the **Tuxjam** (@tuxjam) podcast, talking about #Pachli, philosophies about open source development governance, funding, and more.

Hey #Pachli translators -- I've just enabled a Weblate setting that should show your "translation memory" of any work you've done on other projects in Weblate show up when you're translating (on the "Automatic suggestions" tab).
Hopefully this makes the translation work a bit easier.
Thanks to @lostllm for flagging that this was missing, and thanks to all of you for your work.
Do you use lists?
Today's #Pachli Current release improves their usability by remembering your reading position in the list, similarly to how it behaves on the Home and Notifications timelines.
Lists can be a great way to move content from some people you follow out of your home timeline and into a dedicated space, and of course, each list can be added to its own tab.

Pachli 2.13.0 is now available. This release makes it easier to add captions to media attachments, replaces the Local timeline with the Trending timeline when logging in for the first time, and more.Pachli
#Pachli Current is rolling out the new media description UI for feedback.
Since the last screenshot some of the padding has been tightened up and the colours toned down a little. The image size adjusts to the device size to leave enough room for writing the caption.
Also, some servers report the actual max number of characters you can put in the description. If it's available that's now used, instead of being fixed to 1,500.
Feedback (after you've tried it in Pachli Current) welcomed.
It's been a rainy day in Zurich, so I had a free hour to prototype some changes to how media is attached to posts in #Pachli.

Pachli 2.12.0 is now available. This release includes new features to backup and restore your data, improves display of notifications for server administrators and moderators, and more.Pachli
While I'm waiting for #Pachli 2.12.0 to go through the Google review process I'm working on a significant quality-of-life improvement.
If you follow a moderately popular account you've probably seen the following situation.
1. They post something popular.
2. You see it on your timeline.
3. For the next 48 hours other people you follow boost it, which means it keeps spamming your timeline.
No fault of the original author, or the people boosting it, this is just how Mastodon works.
I have tried #Pachli and _do_ like it. The search feature that @nikclayton called out were a nice improvement.
Although I will still keep using #Phanpy as my primary Fediverse client, I ... was about to say that Pachli will replace #Tusky, but it turns out that composing in Pachli is nearly impossible because the compose dialog is entirely underneath the keyboard and not visible, making it very difficult to compose posts and responses like this!
looks interesting.
It's also on #FDroid: Pachli for Mastodon f-droid.org/packages/app.pachl…
I mostly use #Phanpy, and keep #Tusky around for notifications and link sharing. I don't do a lot of searching, but do like to link to relevant posts, so I'll definitely check out #Pachli when I get home.
Thanks for the tip. 💚

@jotaluis I believe that's a misunderstanding then (/cc @grishka).

#Pachli 2.10.0 is rolling out now, with new conversation account filters to deal with #harassment.
Just like notification filters you can control what happens when accounts start a conversation with you.

How do we all feel about this work-in-progress #Pachli UI when replying?
Instead of low-accessible small text and a tiny triangle to tap, the post you're replying to is always shown.
The text in the post is selectable, for easy copy and paste.
Links/hashtags/mentions in the post are not clickable, so you don't inadvertently click them and go elsewhere.
And the display scrolls, so as you type more the reply moves up.
The version of #Pachli Current available in the Play Store now (2.9.1+11480d80) should fix (a) the crash on startup that some people observed, and (b) home and notification timelines resetting to random locations when returning to them.
Thanks again to everyone that reported issues with troubleshooting information, that was very helpful.
In between rounds of troubleshooting today I found time to answer a question about the #Pachli network code.

If you don't use #Pachli Current you can stop reading now.
If you do, then, as ever, thank you for doing so, and taking the time to report bugs and provide feedback.
The most recent release has a bug that can wildly miscalculate your reading position when restoring state. I'm testing a fix now, but it's unlikely to be widely released until Friday.
If #Pachli Current is your primary Mastodon client I'd advise switching back to #Pachli for the next 48 hours.
