Web developers, if you have sites using -webkit-line-clamp, please make sure to test them with Chrome with experimental web platform features enabled!

If you can also test the new line-clamp property, that'd also be great!

Bootstrap (née Twitter Bootstrap)¹ was a nice HTML/CSS library because it made the default style for a website look much better than previous HTML/web defaults.

Is that still the best option for “I have a simple HTML page, and I want it to look OK?” or is there any other CSS style library I can just drop in? Some predefined “modern looking” style for things? What do you recommend?

I was working on adding Simplified Chinese support to my site when I stumbled across this layout.
With `writing-mode: vertical-rl;`, it's looking really refreshing. Chinese the language started as vertical writing mode but then transitioned into horizontal writing mode in modern era, but we still see lots of vertical writing mode in our daily life, just didn't see that quite often on a web page, or maybe I wasn't looking broadly enough. photos.heybran.tech/speckled-p…

Built a small tool called Borderlab for generating image borders in the browser. Useful for experimenting with decorative frames and exporting results for your images.

If your #CSS works fine in Chrome, but results in white-on-white colors on Firefox, then your CSS doesn't work fine, and whoever leads your CSS team needs to go back to their bootcamp and start over.

It's 2026. It's simply unprofessional to have that kind of basic color scheme failure in *any* browser.

The CSS Working Group has published CSS Snapshot 2026 as a W3C Group Note. This document collects together into one definition all the specs that together form the current state of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as of 2026.

The CSS Working Group published a First Public Working Draft of Selectors Level 5. Selectors are patterns that match against elements in a tree, and as such form one of several technologies that can be used to select nodes in a document. Selectors have been optimized for use with HTML and XML, and are designed to be usable in performance-critical code.

So I was reading the new #CSS selectors level 5 draft, like one does, and what do I see? `label /for/ input` will let us select the input referenced by a label's for attribute? I don't have a good use case right now, usually `label + input` or `label > input` does the trick, but still… very cool to have the option. Interested to see what other use cases people come up with.

#28 No libraries, no canvas, only HTML elements.

There are many elements but because I was late with this prompt I already saw buttons and checkboxes, so I picked the slider and experimented.

And yes, I'm curious what I could do with sliders in the future - beside a slide puzzle. ;)

#Genuary Day 28: "No libraries, no canvas, only HTML elements."

Used a technique I learned from @rebane2001 in her awesome #39c3 talk "CSS Clicker Training", and made a light switch!

No Javascript, not even a <style> tag! The trick is a <details> tag + lots of inline styles.

I'm #colorblind and I use xkcd.com/color/rgb/ frequently.

Randall 'xkcd' Monroe did a survey of over 100,000 readers where he showed them random rgb colors and said "what would you call this?" and afterwards he did his best to sort the results into the most popular color names and the colors they refer to.

It's like a box of Crayola for the internet. Finally, my colorblind self can grab a sample of "dark magenta" that doesn't just look like "grape purple" to everyone else.

The data is freely available as a .txt file under CC0, which I've converted into a .css file here: git.hatspace.net/nycki/nycki.n…

so now when I want a color on my website I can just write `color: var(--xkcd-off-white)` or so on. it's really convenient 😀

edit: blog post discussing this data in more detail: blog.xkcd.com/2010/05/03/color…

Heartbreaking update from #tailwindcss. They had to lay off 75% of their staff yesterday due to #AI driven losses.

I really don't see how the #OpenSource industry survives this. The days of making your source and your docs open to the public is quickly disappearing.

There really needs to be some way to create modern web applications that doesn’t force you to use JavaScript. That shit’s just awful for a sane mind. Preferably not CSS either as that shit’s a total garbage fire.

Seems PHP is still the best (only?) alternative and that’s just sad. Why did we allow the web to get so bad? It all started out great 30 years ago and look at the state now…

Bei #CSS wird 1. verletzt - was für Anbieterinnen von sicheren Messengern bedeutet sie müssen die Implementierung ihrer Apps unsicherer machen da, sie eine Option für das Ausleiten der Materialien erlauben müssten.
