Snug as a bug in a rose mallow bud!

Bit cold this July morning. Found this (likely) 2-spotted longhorn bee a bit sleepy/groggy in the rose mallow where it decided to bed down.

The bee has a few patches of fine granules of pink-white rose mallow pollen on its leg and head. This bee species has similar features to honeybees with a black abdomen, dark thorax, and head covered in fine black hairs, two long antennae, three simple black eyes on the forehead, and two black and gray compound eyes facing forward, six segmented legs, and transparent wings with dark veining. Wild bergamot mass bloom. Last yr the field was covered in mullein. Went back multiple times this yr looking for it. Barely any mullein but found the bergamot at peak instead. Only had my 200-500mm lens w/ me so couldn't capture the full extent.

This fuzzy rudbeckia sprouted amid the grass near the garden. A bit floppy, it laid down in recent rains. Went to prop it up & noticed it was covered w/ black ants which swarmed its largess. Safely propped, the ants kept-a-comin'.

My bee balm went kaput last yr so I planted this native scarlet bee balm (likely Monarda didyma) last fall. Plant was so robust I was able to take clippings early on & start more plants in my 2nd garden. Hopefully I won't go without again๐Ÿคž.

I collect seeds every yr but got a late start sowing these๐Ÿ‘‡ this yr. Some are finally blooming ๐Ÿ‘. The original vendor called this variety "Neon" calendula. Calendula produce varied flower petals/color. Curled petals/burnt ๐ŸŸ  is this variety's theme.

I think image descriptions are very, very important because they enable everyone to experience photos. Unfortunately, I keep reaching my limits with many descriptions, so please bear with me. Here is my sorry attempt to describe today's photo: In a yellow portal with a pointed top, there is a dark brown double-leaf door.
