A note on the cameras I use…Stills are normally taken on my Nikon D850, with a specialised strap so I don’t bear the weight and on very bad health days I use my lighter weight Nikon D5500. In terms of lenses I use a standard 18-55, a 70-200 zoom and a macro. When framing stills I look through the viewfinder I’m old fashioned like that. Unless camera is very low then I use live view.

Although with the cuts to my NDIS plan, I'm not too happy.
These images were taken at Maroondah Reservoir Park on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. I took a trip there with my support worker on Monday. We travel once a month to rural Victoria to immerse ourselves in nature so I can recalibrate. This is part of my NDIS plan. Without it I'd be lost to this world.

That's a heck of a claim when some of us are using AI as a prosthesis for things like poor executive function or ADHD.
I have an AI assistant I've set up to have context about all my projects & their status.
If I have a bad brain day where I'm foggy/can't focus, I can ask the AI to help me figure out what I should be working on.
That makes me MORE myself, not less.
And anyway, I'll take a handshake with Lucifer over Yahweh any day. The Devil has integrity.

A gentle reminder:
Not all disabilities look the same.
Not all disabilities are visible.
The same disability can affect different people in different ways, and to varying degrees.
Less judgement, more care and compassion.
This is shameful discriminatory and misogynistic reporting.
People aren’t choosing disability to be “cool”.
Young women don’t have to “prove” to you that they’re sick.
Disability rates are skyrocketing because we’ve left a disabling virus rip through the population for over 6 years.
The insinuation that disabled women who post about their experiences are “entrenching a culture of economic inactivity” is ableism.
They want to shame us into being silent about our suffering.
Make noise.

I'm a disabled scientist/creative who got stolen from several times while exiting the US so meager savings are nearly gone and income is puny.
- I have yet to pay off my mobility aid (which I desperately needed, doctor's orders).
- A fall last Dec worsened one of my disabilities and I've started PT again so I can get out of pain enough to sleep through the night.
-And my survival plan is getting into a PhD program and there are unfortunately costs involved with that.
I've got a rolling crowdfund right now but can only receive on Paypal. If you'd like to help but you hate Paypal, #BandcampFriday is coming up this Friday. Don't make autistic people in public areas listen to your device's noise. It's bad enough at volume when you can hear everything going on but the skzt-skzt-skzt of a low volume can become meltdown worthy. It can't be tuned out and it's rude as hell to force other people to listen to your noise.

What's the best way to maintain a compost pile when you have very limited strength and ability to flip rotting vegetation? Do those rotating compost bins actually help, or are they just a fiddly mess? I'd prefer something raccoon and resistant, I don't want to be the neighbor whose yard attracts vermin.
In regards to this, I must confess how often I forget how complicated screen readers are to maintain and set up and learn. I know how to get speech synthesizers that suit my needs, but you need to be in the community in order to know this information. I can hear other blind people saying, well, just use a screen reader, but in truth, screen readers are not easy to use nor easy to configure. You can probably guess how rare and bad #disability representation is in kids books, so I really appreciate this picture book about #YayoiKusama . It talks in first-person about seeing things other people don't, a pumpkin talking to her, and living at a hospital. (Also about being poor, protesting the Vietnam war, and getting arrested.)
A lot of kids know her work and do polka-dot art assignments at school too; she's not just some adult celebrity they've never heard of.

Looking for accessible/adaptive knitting methods/devices for colorwork and tension! I have hEDS and my body CANNOT physically relax enough to get good, consistent knitting tension. The #1 tip people say, "relax," is not possible for my body without enough muscle relaxers to kill me.
So, are there any good assistive devices for this? Has a clever disabled knitter come up with a better way to do this yet? I've tried knitting thimbles and they just make it worse for me.

Disabled people are often judged according to how closely we approximate nondisabled life. Can we work a conventional schedule? Leave the house? Attend in person? Perform independence in a form other people recognize?
When we cannot, our lives are interpreted as failed versions of normality.
But a person who builds a workable life around severe limitations has not failed to live normally. They have solved a problem the standard design ignored.

People believe that when you’re disabled, help magically appears.
That when you get worse, you get more help and/or funding.
The reality is far different.
There’s little to no help.
We live in legislated poverty.
When there’s a setback, no one comes to save you.
We rely on community care and mutual aid because the capitalist system views us as expendable.
I'm very bad at pacing, I get excited and don't know my limit until I go past it. I had another crash. It's been really bad over the last 7-8 days. So if anyone else paces for chronic pain and chronic fatigue I'd love to know what works for you.
This is aimed at people who are dealing with chronic pain and / or chronic fatigue, so if you are not dealing with these I'd rather respectfully ask for a boost than advice or comments.
I used to have a Fitbit to help me track what I was doing but one of the metal plates on the back came off. I could glue it back on but knowing my luck, I don't know if that would interfere with it's function. 🤔
Edit: Thank you for the suggestions. ❤️ I will try to see if I can repair my Fitbit and possibly save for a Garmin to help me manage these symptoms.

In such a social environment you might be able to be an activist, if you have the skills, time, and resources.
