Note to people who write alt texts for their images: please think of the colorblind 😢. I have seen two joke posts in succession today which I believe would have made sense if I could have decoded the color patterns. Eg people like me won’t recognize the trans flag colors because we don’t see a difference between pink and light blue. And I am not even mentioning maps with red/orange/green encodings. So it’s much appreciated when it’s explicitly outlined in the alt text. Thanks! #accessibility

Today we announced our first grant since W3C's newly registered entity as a US public-interest non-profit organization. W3C is the recipient of a major grant from the Ford Foundation toward development of web accessibility standards, guidelines, and implementation resources to support access for people with disabilities. #accessibility

Rolling out to #Pachli Current now:

- Long-press links, hashtags, and mentions to open the "share sheet"
- Better UI when writing media captions
- #Accessibility fixes:
. "Open boost author" works as intended
. Include a "Copy" button for links/hashtags/mentions in dialogs
. Show links/hashtags/mentions options in notifications
. Use checkboxes when managing list membership

Most of these were from user feedback. Thanks to everyone who took the time to provide it.

If you don't use accessibility actions in #Pachli you can stop reading now.

I've just noticed that if you use #accessibility actions on a post and bring up a list of either the mentions or hashtags in a post they're missing the leading "@" or "#" respectively.

That feels like a bug -- if you're going to copy the mention or hashtag you probably want the leading "@" or "#" to be included.

Is that right?

thank you for the kind words! We're still working on reproducing some of the issues you described.

The sad fact about #accessibility is that you cannot rely on "someone will fix it". It just needs to be done right from the start, and we'll try to catch up with the legacy we have.

I genuinely had a very good accessibility showcase with @Codeberg@social today. We tackled some front end stuff like labeling, screen reader trapping, and even, things like verbosity! More needs to be done, but I wish all open source developers would treat accessibility like they did today. They listened to me, asked questions, asked me to do particular things, took notes, agreed to follow up with me later on, everything! Like I said, more needs to be done, but the meeting I had with them today will make the platform a lot more usable, trust me! #Accessibility #OpenSource

We're also delighted to share that @tink will be speaking at the #w3cTPAC event W3C @ 30 celebrating 30 years of the World Wide Web Consortium!

It's important to add ALT text to images in social media posts, otherwise you're excluding 1 in 5 people from your messages. It's super important in election time for politician's to add ALT text to social media, and it's so easy.

Happy 25 years of WCAG!

On this day in 1999, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 were published. WCAG 2.2 is still one of the most important standards on the web, ensuring a base level of access for everyone.

I am angered the #Overlay Community Group has its propaganda referenced in this document. And a bit angry at @w3c for allowing the CG to leverage the W3C brand
