Had another go at installing Linux on an old laptop. Last time (+10 years ago) wasn't all that great (Ubuntu).
Tried Mint now and it worked like a charm.
If only Affinity would do Linux I could finally say goodbye to Windows for good.

Wie möchte ich denn eine #Windows-VM auf einem #Ubuntu betreiben?
Ich habe ersteres zwar in den letzten Monaten nur ~2 mal gestartet, aber für ein paar Tools hätte ich schon gerne ein Win zur Hand, ohne neu booten zu müssen wäre premium. Das LXD-Tutorial von Canonical ist extreeeem frickelig und scheitert dann an der Grafik.
#Ubuntu und #Snap ist ein Shice.
Da bietet Ubuntu per Snap #Remmina an.
Ich mach einen Installah... und dann verhindert apparmor dass dieser Shice läuft.
Das ist ungefähr so wie in neues Auto zu verkaufen bei dem die Handbremse angezogen verschweißt ist... Irgendwie kriegt man es zum Laufen... aber als Kunde denkst dir "Ob bei denen der Lift noch ganz nach oben fährt, ist wohl auch nicht gewiss?"

Mint live USB booted, runs solid for now.
So far everything works out of the box. Even AppImages have icons 😀 Yeah, small things.

Certain models of Lenovo laptops now ship with Fedora and Ubuntu Linux. This is done to keep costs low and cater to developers or IT professionals who heavily rely on Linux. Another reason could be the increased unpopularity of Windows 11 in recent times due unwanted features like "AI" or "Recall", but that is just my own wild guess ;) LOL. Would you buy it?

With the end of #Ubuntu 20.04 at the end of April, there's also the end of PHP 7.4.
#PHP 7.4 itself has been EOL since 2022, but a lot of installations are still around - as long as @ubuntu 20.04 is around.
My blog had also been running on PHP 7.4 for quite some time. When it was time to upgrade to a newer PHP version I went to PHP 8.1 (and later to 8.2).
Of course I ran into errors due to the version upgrade. Here are the errors I ran into and how I fixed them.

So apparently, #Ubuntu 24.04 no longer supports installing to an encrypted disk. It's just not an option in the installer. You have to install an earlier version and upgrade, or do some convoluted remount dance to sneak it in.
This is Ubuntu LTS. How can they claim it's business-ready and secure when they *remove* basic security configuration?
Apparently it's something to do with the new installer framework, but I don't care. This is embarrassing.

Zeit wird sicherlich erforderlich sein, bis die Feinheiten verstanden wurden. Ich hatte #Docker auf einer #Ubuntu VM laufen. Die Installation noch nach Ubuntu-Anleitung gemacht, danach war es egal, ob die Docker-Compose-Datei unter #Windows, #Linux oder #Mac gezeigt wurde. Der Rest ist gleich.
Eine große Hilfe war noch #Portainer -> portainer.io/
