I spent the weekend with 46 friends, #BikePacking in the #SierraNevada mountains of #California, west of #Truckee. We did a lot of swimming, conversing and fun riding, before returning through the abandoned #train tunnels and sheds above Donner Lake. (Yes, those Donners.)

I decided to write the review of bike spaces on the new #comfortjet #train on different post.
It is nice that there are ~12 spots for bikes - 7 on hooks and ~5 leaning on rail (it may be possible to put there more bikes I don't know the specification).
Just he prepared that if you have deep wheels or run wider tires it may be really hard to get them on the hook. With my 45mm tires it is snug fit. Also another gripe with them is the seating, you just can't use it when the bike is up there and the derailleur leans (and scratches) on the seat.
All in all quite decent offer, the ticket for the bike on the route #Prague - #Berlin goes for 18€ so not that bad.

We're happily in the small child zone of the IC carriage. It's less awesome than those on the ICE but still really spacious.
Toddler compensated the lack of a "wall based play board" by demolishing an armrest. Good times.
The stress! 28 minutes before departure! That leaves just 20 minutes for Toddler to wave at pigeons & the flock of Jehova Witnesses (they usually don't wave back, and if they do it's only the women).

We're in a six person cabin with three reserved chairs (little hobbit and myself, and Martha).
On boarding the train quickly filled. Our cabin was full. Then an older lady arrived. She mentioned a reservation and pointed to the chair with the guy with the laptop with AFD & MAGA stickers.
He asked to see her ticket. She said she doesn't talk with fascists. He left.
Martha later informed us her reservation is for another seat.

Le président de la #SNCF a réaffirmé sa volonté de mieux associer le vélo au #transport #ferroviaire. 1er résultat : le principe d'une labellisation nationale des « #gares amies des vélos ».
Autre avancée : SNCF Voyageurs reprendra des échanges réguliers avec les représentants des #cyclistes. L'objectif sera de traduire en actions les propositions du Livre blanc remis par le Collectif sur l'emport des vélos dans les trains.

My fellow traveler is having a good time. Turns out these Siemens Desiro units actually make for a pretty robust playground. And the one other passenger is very much enjoying the giggling toddler. Good #train experience!
In the #train again. For context: I bought a day-pass allowing travel on all GoCollective trains. Starting in Jelling I first visited Thisted for some hours, then went to Viborg for a bit with a quick stop in Struer. From there to Skive. And now on my way back to Jelling.
Photo shows the level of care staff has / had for their rolling stock. The proper coloured seat was probably too far away (plus there's a black one in the lower section of the train, mixed in with the colourful seats..).

We arrived in Nr. Nebel. Again excellent infrastructure. We fed a bit of cheese to the station master.
The visual appearance of Arriva / GoCollective trains is absolutely disgraceful. It doesn't have to be perfect but they are on a level that on a model railroad would be called out as "unrealistic weathering".
The contrast with how tidy most Danish station buildings are kept makes it even more apparent.
On the rail again. Another round of:
- men talking, laughing in the quiet coach, in German
- a woman talking on the phone in the quiet coach, in German (luckily only 10 minutes)
- a child screaming in the quiet coach (I checked and the other quiet coach also contains a screaming baby)
Tapping the sign does not help, and I did not want to make the guy working on his laptop next to me get up just to let me go remind them where they are sitting. So I waited until I needed the bathroom and then also went to the bistro. On the way to the bistro I reminded the younger guy that this is quiet coach, in English, he said ok. When returning, like 15 min later they were still talking. I pointed at the sign. The older guy said "Ja, wir reden trotzdem" 😞
Remind me, what kind of a person believes that the rules do not apply to them?

#review! We bought these pretty little espresso cups in a local secondhand store. The stone has a perfect *clingueee* sound, the colorful stripes allure to it being some 1990s futuristic #train foodware, and they simply have the right size.
