Happy Friday #fediverse! I have a new #askfedi conundrum I would like some help with if possible. I own a couple of blank #NFC tags (still in packaging, unused) and would like to write some data to one of them. Specifically, the equivalent of a #vcard.

The caveat is that I need to install whatever app that a #degoogled #android can run. #fdroid does not have any apps that will do the job. I don't have access to any other phones, nor do I have access to a non-linux machine.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

Can TPU be used as a shock absorber? I'm thinking of 3D printing cases for my camera lenses and foam rubber is the obvious choice for shocks, I've been wanting to get TPU for another project.

Its expensive glass, so I don't want to leanr its unsuitable the hard way.

Recommendations for VPS hosting as an alternative to Digital Ocean?

For those who haven't seen, Digital Ocean announced today that they're giving $3 million to normalizing fascism in open source. So, I'm looking for a new cloud provider.

My needs are fairly straightforward -- VPSs running GoToSocial (hiii!!!!!), Ghost, Wordpress, a few one-off projects.

Some of the suggestions I've gotten so far:

• OVH
• Upcloud
• Hetzner (although I've heard from enough people with bad experiences there that I'm skeptical)

Thoughts on any of those, or other suggestions?

What happens if I reactivate an old account on an instance I migrated away from? Not to move back, just to have an alt account.

I don't want to migrate my current followers to the reactivated account. I don't want to reactivate it if it would somehow mess up my current account. I'd just like to have accounts on both instances.

UPDATE: I did it! Reactivating just unlinked the accounts so the username is live again. Easy as pie. Thanks to all who shared.

Ein waipu.tv-Stick ist ein Endgerät, auf dem Android läuft (Version 11 in meinem Fall).
Ich dachte also ich versuche mal PipePipe darauf zu installieren.
Dafür LocalSend auf dem Stick installiert und die PipePipe-APK vom Handy auf den Stick geschoben.
Dann "installieren von unbekannten Quellen" freigegeben für LocalSend.
Dann wollte ich die APK installieren per Paketinstallation. Es rödelt, aber am Schluss kommt eine Meldung, dass nichts installiert wurde.

Hat jemand eine Idee, woran das liegen könnte?

Given that I found an app to create slides in MarkDown: is there an open source solution, accessible to blind, to show those slides in a presentation (conference, office, etc.?
Better if it's self-hostable, but otherwise, decentralized anyways.

No idea if LibreOffice is still accessible, if it has a presentation tool - OnlyOffice is excluded, accessibility isn't optimized at all despite they speak about it. Already had a call with them but no news came since long.

Update: it’s a micrometer, & thanks to several generous replies w/links, I now know how to measure tiny things with one.

Anyone here in the fediverse have an idea what this tool is used for? It was found in a tool kit with recognizable metal clamps of various styles, gappers, radius gauges ?) metal files, pliers, and 4” metal rulers.

I’m intrigued by its range of numbers & precision clamping capability and wondering why one would need to fine tune a clamp.

Do you know somewhere in the EU where i could get hormones? If there’s a psychologist or someone else who can veto it then i almost certainly cannot. Same if there’s a huge extra fee.

Country is okay, but if you know a specific clinic, that’s even better.

Central Europe and public healthcare preferred, but idk if that’s even possible. Most, um, ‘alternative’ sources have enough problems to not be an option.
