Cephalotus follicularis, the Australian Pitcher Plant, has been doing well. Since I got it last January it has grown significantly and so far is not showing any signs of dying. Not dying is one of the major signs of a healthy plant.

This is Dionaea muscipula 'B-52', a giant Venus Flytrap cultivar known for producing some of the largest traps in cultivation, often exceeding 1.5 to 2 inches in length. "B-52" is a code number assigned by Henning von Schmeling, the person who developed the plant. It does not refer to the bomber, the band, or the hair style.

A somewhat unexpected discovery: Oeceoclades maculata is back in bloom! This terrestrial African orchid has cute little white and purple flowers and self-pollinates pretty easily…though the seeds provide many of the same challenges most orchid seeds do in germinating (better have the right fungus to pair them up with, or be really good at TC). But if you’re up for a challenge, there’s packets of seeds in the Shop!

On a lighter note, I'm trying to improve my photography and nature ID skills – a return to my long-ago uni studies: zoology and botany.
Great Sun Orchids - Thelymitra aristata - were blooming at Anglesea (VIC) with a warm and sunny day. This one's simple, but some plants had 30-40 large (35mm/1.5in) flowers on their impressive flower spikes.

Somebody has chewed a hole through the side of a Sarracenia leucophylla pitcher. Wasps are a favorite prey of Sarracenia species, and sometimes when a wasp falls into the pitcher it's able to chew its way out. This doesn't really harm the plant, as it's still able to trap and digest additional prey. But sometimes the critters are able to make an escape.
