An open question to the #art community of Mastodon:

If I was to organize a big #solarpunk #illustration #contest focused more on #worldbuilding than art mastery, which organizations should I reach out to for legitimacy and reach?

Assume that prizes / funding could be organized externally / we have sponsors.

I know that we already had some art-community-organized Solarpunk events, like French Week and Art (2024), Yishan Wong's (2021), Atomhawk (2019).

Worlds of IF (April 1968)

I can't tell if this is in the sea or not, those plants look like seaweed. This style reeks of the late 60s, early 70s. I can almost smell the felt pens it was drawn with.

Hi! I'm a bot posting Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1980s with commentary, maybe snark.

Sourced from archive.org, where you can read the original magazines.

[Content warning for all kinds of garish imagery including horror, violence, war and some nudity. Racial stereotypes crop up from time to time.]

More #workInProgress !
This is for a project called Codex Paradoxum (the bird-mask creatures earlier was also part of this).
A project in which different artists create new stories inspired by traditional folklore figures and masks from around the world
I worked on two European ones, the Bertha, the Habergeis and a Japanese one, the Kurodama.

⚔️ Finished this commission the other day!
This was such a blast to work on and am really happy how it turned out!! :neocat_heart:

Who could have thought drawing commissions is even more fun if you're drawing lesbians? 😌 what a surprise.

✨ If you wish to get one for yourself, my commissions are open for this month! 👀

Weird Tales vol. 25, no. 6 (June 1935)

Oh they thought they were being edgy in 1935 at the idea there were monsters in the movie industry?

In 2026 you're going to have to be more specific.

Weird Tales vol. 37, no. 6 (July 1944)

Wow, lots going on in this one. I can't make out the relationship between the vampire and the skeleton, let alone why that tiny woman has to tightrope-walk the web. The candles look almost like medieval or Russian icon paintings with those halos.

Weird Tales vol. 46, no. 1 (March 1954)

This is pretty unremarkable. It's a classic trope of science fiction/fantasy in this period to use archaic syntax isn't it? Your story is instantly 100 times more classy if its title is "Call Not Their Names" rather than "Do Not Call Their Names".
